Job Summary
The Setter Cum Supervisor (VMC) is responsible for setting up and operating Vertical Machining Centers (VMC), supervising machine operators, ensuring production targets are achieved, maintaining product quality, and optimizing machine utilization while complying with safety and company standards.
Key Responsibilities Machine Setting & Production
- Set up VMC machines as per production plans and engineering drawings.
- Install and align fixtures, jigs, cutting tools, and workpieces.
- Set machine offsets, tool lengths, and work coordinates.
- Perform first-off inspection and obtain quality approval before mass production.
- Optimize machining parameters to improve productivity and tool life.
- Reduce setup time and machine downtime.
- Monitor machine performance and ensure maximum utilization.
- Coordinate with CNC programmers for program modifications, if required.
Production Supervision
- Supervise VMC operators during all shifts.
- Allocate jobs based on production priorities.
- Monitor hourly and daily production targets.
- Ensure adherence to production schedules.
- Coordinate with Planning, Quality, Maintenance, and Stores departments.
- Prepare daily production reports and shift handover reports.
Technical Skills
- VMC machine setup and operation.
- Knowledge of CNC machining processes.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and GD&T.
- Understanding of cutting tools and machining parameters.
- Knowledge of work holding fixtures.
- Familiarity with Fanuc, Siemens, Mitsubishi, or Haas CNC controls (as applicable).
- Proficiency in precision measuring instruments.
- Basic knowledge of CNC programming and offset adjustment.
- Basic computer skills (MS Excel, ERP systems preferred).
