Power Plant DCS Software Design Engineer
Responsible for the design of power plant monitoring and control systems (DCS, SCADA, PLC and Special Function Controllers) and related control devices/subsystems used for data acquisition, automatic process control, safety & reliability systems and operator stations/interfaces. An ideal candidate is expected to have the following:

Deep understanding of customer (power plant owners) requirements (plant layout, monitoring & control requirements of power plant [Generator, GT, ST, Boiler, HRSG, BoP and Auxiliaries – respective open loop, closed loop controls and protection interlocks]), P&ID, and Functional Design Specifications

Ability to understand and interpret P&IDs, Plant Layout and Control System Architecture, Functional Design Specifications, Control Philosophies & Control Narratives, Cause & Effect Matrices/diagrams

Ability to design the entire control system software (system configuration, control logics implementation, HMI building and Alarm & Event Management) in collaboration with related technical departments.

Well-versed with DCSs’ IO Databases, Alarm & Event Configuration, using HMI builder to create and link screens, control and interlock logic programming using Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagrams (FBD), Structured Text (ST) and Sequential Flow Charting (SFC). Experience and good understanding of IEC61131 based programming. Knowledge of Problem Oriented Language (POL) is a plus

Knowledge of Network & Cyber Security Configurations

Prepare system software configuration documentation. Review vendor documentation and technical submittals

Knowledge of applicable international standards (IEC 61850, IEC60870, DNP3 etc.)

Minimum of 5 years’ experience in design and detail engineering of one or more established DCS used in power plants. Example: Diasys Netamation, MELSEP, HIACS, TOSMAP, SPPA T3000, Mark VIe, Symphony Plus, 800xA, Emerson, Honeywell, Centum etc
Required Skills and Experience

Very good understanding of control schemes and functionalities of controllers used for monitoring & control of Generator, GT, ST, Boiler, HRSG, BoP and Auxiliaries – respective open loop, closed loop controls and protection interlocks

Control logic implementation should include design, development and implementation of Control logic, Sequence Logic, Interlock and Protection Logic, Start/Stop Sequences, Automatic Control Functions

Hands-on working experience in design and development of system configuration, control logic configuration and HMI building, testing and SWAT

Experience in design of Operator Interface
-
HMI Screens, including Mimic Screens, Overview Displays, Trends, Event Displays and Diagnostic Screens ensuring user-friendly operation and plant monitoring.

Alarm & Event Management - Configure alarm databases, alarm rationalization, Implement alarm priorities and operator guidance. Develop event logging and reporting functions.

Experience in System Integration & Testing - Perform software integration testing, participating in t Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) and commissioning and troubleshooting activities.

Documentation Experience – Preparing Functional Design Specifications (FDS), Software Design Specifications (SDS), Cause & Effect Documents, Logic Narratives, HMI Design Documents, FAT Procedures

Guiding and supporting respective teams to do detailed engineering, configure the system and testing (SWAT and FAT), commissioning and SAT

Proficiency in DCS, PLC and SCADA engineering tools. Experience with MELGEAR and MELSEP is a plus
Experience

10+ years in Control System application engineering for power plants with a minimum of 5 years’ hands-on experience in DCS software engineering.
Education
-
Bachelor's Degree in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation Engineering or equivalent.

Technical Requirements:

Strong experience with DCS platforms (e.g., Mark VIe, 800xA, SPPA T3000, Honeywell, Emerson)

Programming: IEC 61131 (Ladder, FBD, ST, SFC)

Knowledge of IEC 61850, IEC 60870, DNP3

Experience in alarm management and control system architecture

Exposure to MELSEP / MELGEAR is a plus
