Position Summary
The Head of Information Technology (IT Head) will lead the planning, implementation, management, and security of the school's technology infrastructure. The role is responsible for creating a future-ready digital ecosystem that supports teaching, learning, administration, and campus operations while ensuring compliance with CBSE guidelines and industry best practices.
The ideal candidate is a strategic leader with strong technical expertise, excellent project management skills, and a passion for leveraging technology to enhance educational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Develop and execute the school's IT strategy aligned with the institution's vision and growth plans.
- Build a technology roadmap for academic, administrative, and operational excellence.
- Advise the School Leadership Team on emerging technologies and digital transformation initiatives.
- Prepare and manage the annual IT budget and procurement plan.
IT Infrastructure Management
- Establish and manage the school's complete IT infrastructure, including:
- Network infrastructure (LAN, WAN, Wi-Fi)
- Servers and cloud platforms
- Computer laboratories
- Smart classrooms
- CCTV and surveillance systems
- Access control systems
- Audio-Visual systems
- Data centre and backup infrastructure
- Ensure high system availability with minimal downtime.
Cybersecurity & Data Protection
- Develop and implement robust cybersecurity policies.
- Ensure secure access to school systems and confidential information.
- Manage firewalls, endpoint security, antivirus, email security, and network monitoring.
- Implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
- Conduct periodic security audits and vulnerability assessments.
School ERP & Digital Systems
- Lead implementation and management of School ERP systems.
- Manage Learning Management Systems (LMS), student information systems, attendance, fee management, transport, HRMS, and examination software.
- Coordinate with vendors for software implementation and support.
- Ensure seamless integration of all digital platforms.
Academic Technology Support
- Enable technology-driven teaching and learning.
- Support teachers in effective use of:
- Interactive panels
- Smart classrooms
- Digital content
- Online assessments
- AI-enabled educational tools
- Organize technology training workshops for faculty.
IT Operations
- Establish an efficient IT Helpdesk.
- Monitor service requests and ensure timely resolution.
- Maintain IT asset inventory and lifecycle management.
- Develop preventive maintenance schedules.
Procurement & Vendor Management
- Evaluate technology solutions and recommend suitable products.
- Manage procurement of hardware, software, networking equipment, and licenses.
- Negotiate Annual Maintenance Contracts (AMCs) and Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Manage relationships with technology vendors and service providers.
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with CBSE digital initiatives and applicable government regulations.
- Develop IT policies covering:
- Acceptable Use Policy
- Data Privacy
- Password Management
- Device Management
- Cybersecurity
- Internet Usage
- Backup & Recovery
- Maintain accurate IT documentation and standard operating procedures.
Team Leadership
- Recruit, mentor, and supervise the IT team.
- Allocate responsibilities and monitor performance.
- Foster a culture of innovation, service excellence, and continuous improvement.
Innovation & Digital Transformation
- Introduce innovative technologies including:
- Artificial Intelligence (AI)
- Robotics
- Coding platforms
- STEM and Makerspaces
- Cloud collaboration tools
- Digital libraries
- Evaluate emerging educational technologies to enhance student learning outcomes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, or related field.
- Master's degree (MBA, MCA, M.Tech, or equivalent) preferred.
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft, Cisco (CCNA/CCNP), AWS, Azure, ITIL, CEH, CISSP, or PMP are desirable.
Experience
- Minimum 5-10 years of progressive IT experience.
- At least 5 years in a leadership role.
- Experience in schools, universities, or large educational institutions is highly preferred.
- Proven experience in establishing IT infrastructure for a new campus will be an added advantage.
