Key Responsibilities
Estimation & Costing
- Study architectural, interior and shop drawings to understand project requirements.
- Prepare detailed BOQ (Bill of Quantities) and cost estimates.
- Calculate quantities of materials, hardware, accessories, labour and other resources.
- Prepare item-wise costing for furniture, woodwork, civil, electrical, metal, glass, false ceiling, flooring and other interior works.
- Obtain and analyse material rates from the Purchase/Vendor team.
- Calculate labour and installation costs.
- Include transportation, wastage, overheads and other applicable costs in the estimation.
- Prepare project-wise cost sheets and commercial comparison statements.
Quotation Preparation
- Prepare accurate and competitive quotations based on project drawings and specifications.
- Analyse client BOQs and identify missing, excess or unclear items.
- Prepare rate analysis for major and critical items.
- Coordinate with the Design, Purchase, Production and Project teams for technical and commercial inputs.
- Ensure quotations are submitted within the required deadline.
Vendor & Material Rate Analysis
- Coordinate with Purchase for current material and vendor rates.
- Compare quotations received from different vendors.
- Maintain updated rate databases for materials, hardware, labour and services.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction without compromising quality.
Project Cost Control
- Compare estimated costs with actual project costs.
- Track material consumption, wastage and labour costs.
- Highlight cost variations and potential losses to management.
- Support the Project and Production teams in maintaining project budgets.
- Assist in preparing revised costing for scope changes and variations.
3. Coordination
The Costing Engineer should closely coordinate with:
- Design Team – drawings, specifications and quantities
- PPC/Planning Team – production and project requirements
- Purchase Team – material and vendor rates
- Production Team – manufacturing and labour requirements
- Project/Site Team – site execution and installation costs
- Accounts/Commercial Team – project commercial information
- Management – final costing, margins and quotation approval
4. Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of interior fit-out and furniture costing.
- Good understanding of BOQ and quantity estimation.
- Knowledge of materials such as plywood, MDF, veneer, laminates, solid wood, hardware, glass, metal and other interior materials.
- Good knowledge of labour and installation costing.
- Ability to read and understand AutoCAD drawings and specifications.
- Good MS Excel skills, including formulas, Pivot Tables and cost sheets.
- Strong analytical and numerical skills.
- Good negotiation and vendor comparison skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work under tight quotation deadlines.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
