Core Responsibilities
- Diagnosing Infections: They test patient samples—such as blood, urine, swabs, and tissue—to identify the exact germ causing an illness.
- Guiding Treatments: They run antimicrobial susceptibility tests to see which drugs or antibiotics will work best against a specific infection.
- Advising Doctors: They consult with medical teams on complex cases, recommend targeted therapies, and help interpret lab results.
- Controlling Outbreaks: They monitor infection trends within the hospital to stop outbreaks and reduce the spread of hospital-acquired infections.
- Promoting Antibiotic Stewardship: They create prescribing guidelines to prevent antibiotic resistance and ensure medications are used correctly
