Casting HOD (Head of Department) – Job Responsibilities
Industry: Jewellery Manufacturing
Key Responsibilities:
- Department Management
- Lead and manage the entire casting department to ensure smooth daily operations.
- Allocate manpower and resources effectively to meet production targets.
- Production Planning & Execution
- Ensure timely completion of casting orders as per production schedules.
- Coordinate with CAD, CAM, Wax, Production, and Quality teams for seamless workflow.
- Process Monitoring
- Oversee all casting processes including treeing, investment, burnout, metal melting, casting, and de-vesting.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Quality Control
- Monitor casting quality and minimize defects such as porosity, shrinkage, incomplete filling, and surface issues.
- Implement corrective and preventive actions to improve quality.
- Metal Control
- Ensure proper handling, tracking, and accountability of precious metals.
- Monitor metal recovery and reduce process losses.
- Productivity Improvement
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives such as Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, and 5S.
- Optimize machine utilization and process efficiency.
- Team Development
- Train, mentor, and evaluate department employees.
- Identify skill gaps and arrange necessary training programs.
- Maintenance & Safety
- Ensure proper maintenance of casting machines and equipment.
- Maintain workplace safety standards and compliance with company policies.
- Inventory & Consumables Management
- Monitor stock levels of casting consumables, tools, and materials.
- Coordinate with stores and procurement for timely availability.
- Reporting & MIS
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production reports.
- Analyze KPIs such as production output, rejection rates, metal loss, and efficiency.

Preferred Qualification:
- Diploma/B.Tech in Mechanical, Metallurgy, Production, or related field.
- 8–15 years of experience in jewellery casting operations, with at least 3–5 years in a leadership role.
