The engineer designs, builds, and operates ServiceNow applications and AI powered workflows that integrate with our event driven backend (Java/Spring Boot, Kafka/Confluent) on Azure. They own the end to end responsibility: app development, the API/integration layer between ServiceNow and our platform, AI capabilities (Now Assist, AI Agents, Predictive Intelligence), and the front end experiences delivered through UI Builder and Service Portal. They work within enterprise governance, security (Entra ID), and aviation operations reliability constraints.
Mandatory requirements
4+ years hands on ServiceNow development on real production instances, not just admin/config.
Strong server side and client side scripting: GlideRecord, GlideAjax, Script Includes, Business Rules, Flow Designer, scoped application development.
Solid grasp of the data model, ACLs, update sets / source control (Git based app repos), and release management across instances.
Experience with the Automated Test Framework (ATF) and writing testable, maintainable scoped apps.
Integration & API layer
Designing and building both inbound and outbound integrations: Scripted REST APIs, Table/Aggregate/Import Set APIs, IntegrationHub spokes, and Flow Designer actions.
OAuth 2.0 and Microsoft Entra ID (SSO, OIDC, client credentials / service to service auth) — directly relevant since this is your auth backbone.
Experience integrating ServiceNow with an external event driven or message based backend. Direct Kafka/Confluent experience or equivalent async/eventing experience (webhooks, message bus)
MID Server configuration for on prem/hybrid connectivity, and comfort with REST/JSON, error handling, retries, and idempotency in integrations.
Able to reason about contracts and sequencing between ServiceNow and a Spring Boot service layer (who owns state, how events flow, failure/fallback handling).
AI capabilities
Practical experience with the ServiceNow AI Platform AI stack Now Assist (GenAI workflows/skills), AI Agents / AI Agent Studio (agentic flows), Predictive Intelligence (classification, similarity models), Virtual Agent / AI Search.
Understands how to ground AI features in platform data, configure/tune skills and agents, and evaluate output quality
Aware of AI governance: data residency, what data is sent to which model, the Generative AI Controller for third party LLMs (e.g., Azure OpenAI), and EU AI Act implications — important for KLM as an EU operator.
Frontend layer (Big Plus)
Building front ends with UI Builder (Next Experience / configurable workspaces) and Service Portal (widgets, AngularJS).
Working knowledge of the Now Experience UI Framework / Now Experience Components (Seismic web components) and the difference between portal era and Next Experience patterns.
General front end fundamentals (JavaScript, HTML/CSS, REST consumption) to build responsive, accessible experiences for operational users.
