A Hospital Floor Incharge (or Floor Coordinator/Manager) oversees daily ward operations. Their core responsibilities include supervising medical and support staff, coordinating seamless patient admissions and discharges, ensuring facility cleanliness and equipment functionality, and bridging communication between patients, families, and clinical teams.
1. Patient Care and Experience
- Rounds: Conduct daily personal rounds to interact with patients, address grievances, and note any concerns for consultants.
- Feedback: Collect and document completed patient feedback forms, and facilitate follow-up calls or review appointments.
- Discharge Process: Coordinate file completion, brief relatives on discharge policies, and align the billing department and medical store to minimize delays.
2. Operations and Administration
- Daily Reporting: Compile morning and daily status reports on admitted, discharged, transferred, or surgery-posted patients, alongside tracking their billing status.
- Compliance: Implement and audit adherence to hospital Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), safety standards, and infection control protocols.

3. Staff Management and Resource Allocation
- Supervision: Manage duties, schedules, and discipline for floor staff, including nurses, ward secretaries, housekeeping, and attendants.
- Training: Oversee onboarding, assign tasks, and conduct skill-development sessions or workshops.
- Troubleshooting: Reallocate staff during shortages and immediately address operational gaps or bottlenecks.

4. Facility and Inventory Control
- Maintenance Checks: Routinely inspect rooms and common areas for hygiene, and check equipment (ventilators, BP apparatus, tube lights, etc.). Report broken amenities to the maintenance department.
- Biomedical Waste: Ensure strict compliance with color-coded biomedical waste segregation and disposal guidelines.
- Post-Discharge Turnaround: Verify rooms are cleaned, equipment is restocked, and terminal cleaning/fumigation is documented in the log book
