Duties
- Assist patients in choosing eyewear that fits their lifestyle, style preferences, and prescription needs
- Take precise measurements of pupils, refraction data, and frame fitting to ensure optimal vision correction
- Conduct basic eye tests, including visual acuity assessments and vital signs such as blood pressure or pulse if needed
- Support clinical staff with laboratory tasks like lens edging, frame adjustments, and quality control checks
- Maintain accurate medical records using Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems such as Epic or similar platforms
- Educate patients on proper eyewear care, contact lens usage, and general eye health practices
- Manage retail sales of eyewear products while providing excellent customer service to enhance patient satisfaction
Qualifications
- Prior optical experience or strong familiarity with ophthalmology practices is highly preferred
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy of the eye, physiology, and medical coding enhances your effectiveness in this role
- Experience with EMR systems like Epic or other clinic management software is advantageous
- Understanding of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient privacy and confidentiality at all times
- Ability to perform laboratory tasks such as lens fitting and aseptic techniques in a clinical setting
- Strong retail sales skills combined with retail math proficiency to manage inventory and sales transactions
- Excellent communication skills to educate patients effectively and collaborate with healthcare professionals
