Role
Lay out and typeset our K–8 textbooks and workbooks (Hindi, English, Maths, Science, Social Studies, GK) from manuscript to print-ready file — page design, composition, corrections and final press handoff.
Responsibilities
- Typeset full books from editorial manuscripts: chapter openers, unit theme pages, exercises, activity boxes, tables and answer keys
- Design page layouts, grids and master pages; maintain a consistent look across a series (Nursery–Class 8)
- Place and size illustrations, photographs and diagrams; coordinate with the illustration team on gaps and reworks
- Compose Hindi and English text with correct Devanagari rendering, hyphenation, matra spacing and line-breaking
- Incorporate proofreader corrections across multiple proof rounds; keep clean version control of each stage
- Prepare press-ready output: CMYK conversion, bleed and trim marks, colour separations, imposition, PDF/X export
- Design covers, spines and back matter; prepare title-wise cover files for print
- Coordinate with the press on plate-making queries, paper sizes, forms and proofs
- Supply page files/assets for flipbook and digital conversion
Required
- 3+ years DTP/book design experience in a publishing house or press
- CorelDRAW, Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator; PageMaker/QuarkXPress an advantage
- Strong command of Hindi and English typesetting; legacy Devanagari font handling (Kruti Dev, Chanakya, Shusha) and Unicode conversion
- Sound understanding of prepress: colour modes, resolution, bleeds, imposition, printing constraints
- Accuracy under deadline pressure and comfort handling long, repetitive correction cycles
Preferred
- Familiarity with NCERT/NCF-aligned school textbook structure
- Cover design and packaging sense for the school market
- Basic scripting/batch processing for repetitive layout tasks
