About the Opportunity
Birkbeck, University of London, is bringing its historic mission of academic excellence and flexible, high-quality higher education to India. We are establishing a brand-new campus in the vibrant tech and business hub of Bengaluru.
We are seeking two visionary academic leaders to join us as Discipline Leaders from August 2026. In this pivotal role, you will shape the academic footprint of our new campus, leading undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, fostering an innovative teaching environment, and ensuring an exceptional student journey from day one.
The Role: Purpose & Impact
As a Discipline Leader, your primary responsibility will be to oversee the organization, design, and delivery of our undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) curriculums. You will lead a dedicated team of Module Convenors and Programme Administrators to ensure students achieve excellent learning outcomes and graduate with highly relevant, modern professional skills.
Key Responsibilities
1. Academic Leadership & Quality Assurance
- Curriculum Management: Oversee the cohesive design, planning, and delivery of teaching, learning, and assessment frameworks across all discipline programmes.
- Assessment & Feedback: Implement robust formative and summative assessment strategies that balance student workloads and provide timely, constructive feedback.
- Staff Mentorship: Conduct teaching observations, support the academic development of your teaching team, and foster a collaborative environment.
- Digital Learning: Manage and maintain the discipline’s Programme Moodle shells, ensuring all modules meet the Birkbeck Baseline: Minimum Moodle Standards.
2. Student Experience & Operations
- Direct Teaching: Design and deliver highly engaging lectures, seminars, and classes within your subject area.
- Academic Advising: Provide expert advice to students on degree pathways, module options, mitigating circumstances, and fitness to study.
- Continuous Improvement: Lead annual programmatic reviews utilizing student feedback, engagement data, and pass rates to build actionable development plans.
- Admissions Support: Contribute directly to student recruitment initiatives and the processing of student applications.
Candidate Profile (Person Specification)
Qualifications & Knowledge
- Education: PhD (or equivalent) OR extensive professional practice in Business Analytics or Business & Management (Essential).
- Subject Expertise: Deep, specialized knowledge in your respective discipline.
- Pedagogy: A strong understanding of modern, varied higher education teaching and learning methodologies.
Experience
- Programme Leadership: Demonstrated experience successfully leading academic programmes at the undergraduate and/or postgraduate level (Essential).
- Teaching: Proven track record of high-quality degree-level or postgraduate teaching (Essential).
- Collaboration & Innovation: Experience collaborating with academic peers on curriculum design or research developments (Desirable).
- Industry Connection: Experience in professional consulting or industry practice (Desirable).
Skills & Attributes
- Communication: Outstanding oral, written, and presentation skills; able to make complex concepts accessible to a diverse student body.
- Inclusivity: A deep commitment to working with diversity and the interpersonal skills to engage effectively with mature and non-traditional students.
- Organization: Exceptional administrative, organizational, and Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) management skills.

Pay: ₹1,500,000.00 - ₹2,500,000.00 per year
