Key ResponsibilitiesProcurement & Strategic Sourcing
- Procure pharmaceutical raw materials, excipients, APIs, solvents, and packaging materials as per production requirements.
- Develop procurement strategies to ensure uninterrupted supply and cost competitiveness.
- Obtain quotations, evaluate suppliers, negotiate prices, payment terms, and delivery schedules.
- Execute purchase orders and monitor timely deliveries.
- Identify alternate vendors to mitigate supply risks.
Vendor Development & Management
- Identify, evaluate, and qualify new suppliers in coordination with QA/QC departments.
- Maintain approved vendor lists and supplier performance records.
- Conduct periodic supplier evaluations based on quality, delivery, compliance, and cost parameters.
- Develop long-term strategic relationships with key suppliers.
Inventory Management
- Monitor stock levels of APIs, excipients, primary and secondary packaging materials.
- Coordinate with Production Planning and Stores to maintain optimum inventory levels.
- Avoid stock-outs, excess inventory, and material obsolescence.
- Ensure safety stock availability for critical materials.
Regulatory & Quality Compliance
- Ensure procurement activities comply with GMP, WHO-GMP, Schedule M, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Coordinate with QA for vendor qualification, audits, and supplier documentation.
- Ensure availability of COA, MSDS, TDS, GMP certificates, and other supplier documents.
- Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits.
Cost Optimization
- Analyze market trends and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
- Implement annual cost-saving initiatives.
- Monitor procurement budgets and spending against targets.
- Conduct comparative analysis and supplier benchmarking.
Cross-Functional Coordination
- Coordinate with Production, Planning, QA, QC, Stores, Regulatory Affairs, Finance, and Logistics teams.
- Follow up on deliveries to ensure production schedules are maintained.
- Resolve procurement-related issues and supply chain disruptions.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain procurement records, contracts, purchase orders, and supplier agreements.
- Prepare procurement MIS reports and management dashboards.
- Track KPIs related to procurement efficiency and vendor performance.
Educational QualificationEssential
- Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy (B.Pharm), Science, Commerce, Engineering, or related discipline.
Preferred
- MBA in Supply Chain Management, Operations, Materials Management, or Procurement.
Experience
- 8–15 years of experience in pharmaceutical procurement.
- Minimum 5 years in a managerial role within a formulation manufacturing company.
