A Senior Production Engineer for sheet metal fabrication leads shop floor operations to optimize manufacturing processes, meet daily output targets, and ensure high quality and safety standards. This role requires advanced technical expertise in sheet metal forming, tooling, and team management.
Key Responsibilities Production & Operations Management
- Oversee fabrication processes including laser cutting, Turret Punch Press (Amada/Trumpf), CNC bending, welding (MIG/TIG/Spot), grinding, and assembly.
- Manage daily production schedules, manpower allocation (often 20–35 workers), and machine utilization.
Process Optimization & Continuous Improvement
- Drive productivity and Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Implement Lean manufacturing techniques, Kaizen initiatives, and cost-reduction measures to minimize material waste and scrap.
- Collaborate with design engineering to improve product manufacturability using Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
Quality & Tooling Management
- Manage the setup, troubleshooting, and preventive maintenance of press tools, progressive tools, and combination dies.
- Perform first-piece approvals and enforce quality control (e.g., Poka-Yoke) to meet engineering specifications.
- Ensure strict adherence to ISO and IATF quality standards.
Safety & Team Leadership
- Enforce workplace safety regulations and 5S compliance across the shop floor.
- Train, mentor, and evaluate junior engineers and fabrication staff.
Required Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree (B.E./B.Tech) in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering.
- Experience: Typically 5 to 8+ years of hands-on experience in sheet metal manufacturing or a similar fabrication environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, using precision measurement tools, and working with CNC programming or CAD/CAM software.
