Qualification
- B.E./B.Tech/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
- Certification in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, Autodesk Inventor, or equivalent CAD software will be an added advantage.
Job Summary
The Design Engineer will be responsible for designing pharmaceutical process equipment and systems in accordance with customer requirements, GMP guidelines, and applicable engineering standards. The role involves detailed engineering, 3D modelling, manufacturing drawings, technical documentation, and coordination with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project execution from design through manufacturing, installation, and commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
Product Design & Development
- Design pharmaceutical process equipment and systems based on customer specifications, URS, and project requirements.
- Develop detailed 3D models, fabrication drawings, manufacturing drawings, assembly drawings, and General Arrangement (GA) drawings.
- Prepare fabrication drawings with welding details, tolerances, machining details, and surface finish requirements.
- Design sheet metal components, machined parts, structural frames, pressure vessels, piping systems, and process skids.
- Ensure all designs comply with GMP, ASME, ISO standards, hygienic design principles, and customer specifications.
Engineering Documentation
- Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOM), part lists, engineering change records, and design documentation.
- Develop P&IDs, equipment layouts, piping layouts, utility drawings, and installation drawings.
- Create exploded assembly drawings, operation & maintenance manuals, and technical documentation.
- Revise engineering drawings based on customer comments, manufacturing feedback, and approved engineering changes.
- Maintain proper revision control and engineering document management.
Project Coordination
- Coordinate with Production, Projects, QA/QC, Procurement, Automation, and Service departments throughout project execution.
- Participate in technical discussions with customers, consultants, and vendors.
- Provide engineering support during fabrication, assembly, installation, and commissioning activities.
- Resolve design-related issues encountered during manufacturing and site execution.
- Support Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), Site Acceptance Tests (SAT), and customer inspections.
Design Validation & Continuous Improvement
- Review designs for manufacturability, maintainability, serviceability, safety, and cost optimization.
- Perform engineering calculations related to equipment sizing, load calculations, pressure vessel design, and material selection.
- Recommend design improvements to enhance equipment performance, reliability, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Standardize engineering components and promote modular designs to reduce lead time and manufacturing costs.
- Support Engineering Change Notices (ECN) and design improvement initiatives.
Cross-Functional Support
- Support Sales and Business Development teams with technical proposals, GA drawings, and tender documentation.
- Review vendor drawings, technical specifications, and purchased equipment documentation.
- Assist Service and Commissioning teams in resolving technical issues.
- Ensure timely release of approved drawings to Production and Projects as per project schedules.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of pharmaceutical process equipment design.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Creo, Autodesk Inventor, or equivalent 3D CAD software.
- Ability to prepare fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, General Arrangement (GA) drawings, P&IDs, and piping layouts.
- Good understanding of sheet metal design, machining, welding, fabrication, and pressure vessel design.
- Knowledge of stainless steel (SS304 & SS316L) equipment design and hygienic engineering principles.
- Familiarity with GMP, ASME, ISO 9001, pressure vessel design standards, and sanitary equipment requirements.
- Understanding of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing), mechanical tolerances, and material selection.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and ERP systems.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Preferred Experience
- Design and engineering of pharmaceutical process equipment.
- Customer-specific equipment design and customization.
- Exposure to FAT, SAT, installation, and commissioning activities.
- Basic knowledge of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) or simulation tools will be an added advantage.
