About the Role
We are seeking a creative and hands-on Bag & Accessories Design Intern to support the development of handbags, small leather goods, travel accessories, and lifestyle products. This role is ideal for someone passionate about product design and interested in taking products from concept to physical prototype.
The intern will work closely with the founder/design team to research trends, create design concepts, source materials, develop patterns, and assist in building functional prototypes.
Key ResponsibilitiesDesign & Product Development
- Research global and local trends in handbags, accessories, and leather goods.
- Create mood boards, design concepts, sketches, and technical drawings.
- Develop product specifications including dimensions, materials, trims, hardware, and construction details.
- Prepare tech packs and manufacturing documentation.
Material Sourcing
- Identify and source suitable materials including leather, vegan leather, canvas, fabrics, linings, zippers, buckles, rivets, magnets, and hardware.
- Build and maintain a supplier database.
- Evaluate materials based on quality, durability, cost, and sustainability.
Pattern Making & Prototyping
- Assist in creating bag patterns and construction templates.
- Develop physical mockups and prototypes.
- Work with sewing machines, cutting tools, and workshop equipment when required.
- Test product functionality, durability, and usability.
- Document design iterations and improvements.
Production Support
- Assist in preparing products for sampling and manufacturing.
- Coordinate with artisans, sample makers, and vendors.
- Maintain organized records of designs, samples, and material inventories.
Desired Skills & Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree/diploma in:
- Accessory Design
- Leather Design
- Fashion Design
- Product Design
- Lifestyle Product Design
- Industrial Design
- Strong interest in bags, accessories, and product craftsmanship.
- Basic knowledge of materials, construction techniques, and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop, CorelDRAW, or similar design software.
- Sketching and visual communication skills.
- Attention to detail and willingness to work hands-on with prototypes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with sewing, leatherwork, pattern making, or product prototyping.
- Understanding of bag construction and hardware.
- Familiarity with sustainable materials and manufacturing practices.
- Portfolio demonstrating product, accessory, or fashion design projects.
