Consultant Ophthalmologist – Job Description
Position: Consultant Ophthalmologist
Department: Ophthalmology / Eye Care
Reports To: Medical Director / Head of Department
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and treat eye diseases, injuries, and vision disorders.
- Perform comprehensive eye examinations and interpret diagnostic tests.
- Prescribe medications, corrective lenses, and treatment plans.
- Conduct ophthalmic surgeries such as cataract, glaucoma, refractive, and retinal procedures (depending on specialization).
- Manage pre-operative and post-operative patient care.
- Maintain accurate medical records and clinical documentation.
- Collaborate with optometrists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
- Educate patients on eye health, disease prevention, and treatment options.
- Participate in clinical audits, quality improvement initiatives, and continuing medical education.
Required Qualifications
- MBBS or equivalent medical degree.
- MD/MS/DNB in Ophthalmology.
- Valid medical registration with the relevant medical council.
- Fellowship or subspecialty training (Retina, Cornea, Glaucoma, Pediatric Ophthalmology, Oculoplasty, etc.) may be preferred.
