Job Title: ICU Staff NurseJob Summary
The ICU Staff Nurse is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). The nurse works collaboratively with physicians, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams to ensure high-quality patient care, continuous monitoring, and timely medical interventions for critically ill patients.
Key Responsibilities1. Patient Care
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for critically ill patients.
- Monitor vital signs, cardiac rhythms, ventilator settings, and other life-support systems.
- Administer medications, IV fluids, blood products, and prescribed treatments.
- Assist physicians during emergency procedures and critical interventions.
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative intensive care management.
- Ensure patient comfort, safety, and dignity at all times.
2. Clinical Monitoring & Documentation
- Continuously observe patients for changes in condition and report abnormalities immediately.
- Maintain accurate and timely nursing documentation, patient records, and treatment charts.
- Monitor and manage ICU equipment such as ventilators, infusion pumps, and monitors.
- Follow hospital protocols, clinical guidelines, and regulatory standards.
3. Family Support & Education
- Communicate patient status updates to family members in coordination with the medical team.
- Educate patients and caregivers regarding treatment plans, medications, and recovery processes.
- Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and families during critical situations.
4. Infection Control & Safety
- Adhere to infection prevention and control policies.
- Maintain a sterile and safe ICU environment.
- Ensure proper handling and disposal of biomedical waste and hazardous materials.
- Follow patient safety protocols and emergency response procedures.
5. Collaboration
- Work closely with intensivists, physicians, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
- Participate in patient rounds, handovers, and case discussions.
- Support quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits.
- Assist in mentoring junior nursing staff and trainees when required.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Diploma in Nursing (as per institutional requirement).
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred.
- Critical Care Nursing certification preferred.
