JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
The Analyst/Developer is responsible for translating business statements into executable SQL code for retrieving data and verifying/vetting the results with business users/subject matter experts (SMEs).
Essential Functions
- Interpret business requirements derived from mortgage servicing guidelines, identifying keywords and phrases, locating their corresponding data models and fields in supporting documentation (data dictionaries and mapping documents).
- Using identified models and fields, write SQL code that will retrieve results from loan data based on logic defined in the business requirements.
- Mine data models, analyzing fields and values using supporting ad hoc queries as needed, to understand source data characteristics to aid with SQL logic.
- Review and verify results with business users/SMEs, troubleshooting and resolving issues in the SQL logic to ensure accurate results.
- Deploy new and updated code in SaaS application, adding business rule metadata supplied by compliance analyst in requirements.
Competencies/Skills
- Strong SQL skills required, focusing on data query language (DQL) with some data manipulation language (DML). Candidate should understand and have experience defining various join types, subqueries, temp tables, aggregations, as well as manipulating existing data fields using ANSI/ISO SQL functions.
- Experience with online transaction processing (OLTP) and online analytical processing (OLAP) systems, querying operational data stores and data marts.
- Prior mortgage industry experience preferred.
- Strong technical orientation, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong interpersonal, coordination, and multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to work independently and follow through to achieve desired results.
- Quick learner, with the ability to work calmly under pressure and with tight deadlines.
- Ability to adapt and succeed in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Microsoft SQL Server tech stack (SSMS, SSRS, SSIS, Power BI), Databricks, Sigma, Snowflake, dbt, and/or MongoDB experience preferred.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The ability to sit for long periods of time is essential.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, with shifts to be determined by manager. Additional/flexible hours may be required.
Education and Experience
- BA/BS degree, or non-US equivalent, preferably in Information Systems.
- At least two years of basic computer experience required.
- SQL expert with the ability to write complex and performant SQL queries.
- Experience working with mortgage/loan data preferred.
