Diesel Generator Service Manager
Job Summary
The Diesel Generator Service Manager is responsible for leading and managing the service department, ensuring efficient maintenance, repair, installation, and commissioning of diesel generator (DG) sets. The role involves supervising service engineers and technicians, maintaining customer satisfaction, achieving service revenue targets, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the diesel generator service department.
- Plan, schedule, and oversee preventive maintenance, breakdown repairs, and annual maintenance contracts (AMCs).
- Supervise and support service engineers, technicians, and field service teams.
- Ensure timely response to customer service requests and emergency breakdowns.
- Monitor service quality, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
- Coordinate installation, commissioning, testing, and handover of DG sets.
- Diagnose complex technical issues and provide technical guidance to the service team.
- Manage warranty claims and coordinate with manufacturers and suppliers.
- Prepare service reports, maintenance records, and performance analysis.
- Control inventory of spare parts, tools, and consumables.
- Develop service budgets and monitor departmental expenses.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct training and performance evaluations for service personnel.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers and key stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities to increase service contracts, spare parts sales, and after-sales revenue.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and industry standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 5–10 years of experience in diesel generator servicing, with at least 2–3 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Experience with leading DG brands such as Cummins, Caterpillar, Perkins, MTU, Kirloskar, Mahindra Powerol, or similar is preferred.
Technical Skills
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, alternators, control panels, ATS systems, and synchronization panels.
- Expertise in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical faults.
- Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
- Understanding of generator load testing and commissioning procedures.
- Knowledge of fuel systems, cooling systems, lubrication systems, and engine overhauls.
- Proficiency in MS Office and service management or ERP software.

Working Conditions
