Fleet Maintenance Manager

Job Summary:
The Fleet Maintenance Manager is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, compliance, and performance of the company's vehicle fleet. This role ensures maximum fleet availability, safety, reliability, and cost efficiency by implementing preventive maintenance programs, managing workshop operations, coordinating with vendors, and ensuring compliance with all transportation and regulatory requirements.
Key ResponsibilitiesFleet Maintenance Management
- Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance schedules for all fleet vehicles.
- Monitor vehicle health, breakdown trends, and maintenance performance.
- Ensure all vehicles are maintained according to manufacturer specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Minimize vehicle downtime through efficient maintenance planning and resource allocation.
Workshop Operations
- Manage daily workshop activities, including repairs, servicing, inspections, and diagnostics.
- Supervise maintenance technicians, mechanics, and support staff.
- Ensure proper utilization of workshop equipment and tools.
- Maintain workshop safety standards and housekeeping practices.
Fleet Compliance & Safety
- Ensure fleet compliance with transport regulations, pollution standards, permits, fitness certificates, insurance, and statutory requirements.
- Conduct regular vehicle inspections and safety audits.
- Implement and monitor road safety initiatives and driver awareness programs.
- Investigate vehicle accidents and maintenance-related incidents.
Vendor & Spare Parts Management
- Develop relationships with external service providers, OEMs, and spare parts suppliers.
- Negotiate maintenance contracts and service agreements.
- Monitor spare parts inventory and control maintenance costs.
- Ensure timely procurement of parts and consumables.
Cost Control & Budgeting
- Prepare and manage maintenance budgets.
- Analyze maintenance expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Monitor fuel efficiency, tire performance, and fleet operating costs.
- Generate reports on maintenance KPIs and cost metrics.
Fleet Performance Monitoring
- Track fleet utilization, vehicle availability, maintenance turnaround time, and breakdown frequency.
- Implement technology solutions such as Fleet Management Systems (FMS), GPS tracking, and maintenance software.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly performance reports for management review.
Team Leadership
- Recruit, train, and develop maintenance personnel.
- Conduct performance evaluations and establish productivity targets.
- Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Automobile Engineering, or related field.
- 5–10 years of experience in fleet maintenance, transportation, logistics, or workshop operations.
- Experience managing commercial vehicles such as trucks, trailers, tankers, or buses.
- Strong knowledge of vehicle diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and workshop management.
