A Sheet Metal Production Manager oversees the entire manufacturing cycle of metal fabrication. Their goal is to optimize efficiency and minimize scrap rates. Job SummaryWe are seeking an experienced and results-driven Production Manager to lead our sheet metal and fabrication operations. The ideal candidate will optimize production workflows, ensure strict adherence to quality control standards, and manage a team of supervisors, machine operators, and quality inspectors to meet delivery deadlines.
Production Planning & Execution
- Develop and execute comprehensive production schedules based on customer requirements and order volumes.
- Coordinate with Planning and Purchasing teams to ensure raw materials (e.g., steel, aluminum) are available and allocate manpower efficiently.
- Oversee daily shop floor operations, including CNC punching, laser cutting, shearing, bending, welding, and assembly.
- Track Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as cycle times, throughput, scrap rates, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
2. Quality Control & Compliance
- Enforce rigorous quality inspection processes to guarantee sheet metal parts meet engineering drawings, tolerances, and industry standards.
- Implement Lean Manufacturing frameworks (e.g., 5S, Kaizen, Six Sigma) to reduce rework and operational waste.
- Maintain a safe and compliant working environment by enforcing strict health, safety, and environmental protocols.
3. Equipment & Maintenance
- Oversee machinery utilization and establish strict preventive maintenance programs to eliminate unplanned downtime.
- Troubleshoot machinery malfunctions and coordinate with technicians or external vendors for emergency repairs and hardware upgrades.
4. Team Leadership & Financials
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate the performance of shift supervisors and floor operators.
- Manage operational budgets, labor costs, and optimize expenses to maximize profitability.
- Prepare and present regular Management Information System (MIS) reports detailing production output and improvement strategies.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a relevant technical diploma.
- Experience: 5-10+ years of progressive management experience in the sheet metal, press parts, or heavy fabrication industry.
- Technical Skills: Ability to read/interpret engineering blueprints and GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing). Hands-on experience with ERP/MRP systems and metal fabrication machinery.
- Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and conflict-resolution abilities in a fast-paced environment.
