Key Responsibilities
1. Raw Material & In-Process Inspection
- Inspect incoming raw materials (wood, ply, MDF, laminate, hardware, foam, fabric) for grade, moisture content, and defects before production use.
- Check in-process structures (frames, joints, carcass, welding/joinery work) at each production stage for dimensional accuracy, alignment, strength, and finish.
- Verify that cutting, machining, assembly, and joinery meet drawing/spec tolerances.
- Identify and flag structural defects early (loose joints, warping, cracks, misalignment) to prevent downstream rework.
2. Finished Product Inspection
- Conduct final inspection of finished furniture for surface finish, polish/paint quality, colour match, hardware fitting, and overall aesthetics.
- Check functional aspects — drawer/door movement, stability, load bearing, upholstery tautness, etc.
- Perform dimensional checks against approved samples/drawings.
- Conduct random sampling (AQL-based) for batch approval.
- Maintain and refer to approved master samples for consistency.
3. Packing Supervision
- Supervise packing staff to ensure correct packing materials (corner protectors, bubble wrap, cartons, straps) are used per product type.
- Verify packing meets strength/safety standards to prevent transit damage.
- Check labelling, barcoding, and documentation accuracy (PO number, SKU, quantity) before dispatch.
- Ensure packed cartons match order specifications and quantities before loading.
4. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain inspection records, QC checklists, and rejection/rework logs at each stage.
- Prepare daily/weekly quality reports highlighting defect trends and rejection rates.
- Report non-conformities to production/supervisors and follow up on corrective actions.
- Maintain traceability from raw material to finished packed product.
5. Process & Coordination
- Coordinate with production, carpentry, polishing, and packing teams to resolve quality issues in real time.
- Conduct root-cause analysis for recurring defects and recommend corrective/preventive actions.
- Train shop-floor workers on quality standards and defect identification.
- Ensure compliance with internal quality standards and customer-specific requirements (export QC norms if applicable).
Key Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of furniture materials (wood, ply, veneer, laminate, metal, foam, fabric)
- Understanding of joinery, carpentry, and finishing processes
- Familiarity with QC tools: AQL sampling, checklists, measuring instruments (vernier callipers, moisture meter)
- Attention to detail and ability to spot structural/aesthetic defects
- Basic knowledge of packing standards for domestic/export shipment
- Good communication skills to coordinate across departments
- Ability to read technical drawings/specifications
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma/ITI in Wood Technology, Mechanical, or related field (Furniture Design a plus)
- Knowledge of SEDEX, ISO 9001, and QC tools.
- 2–5 years' QC experience in furniture, woodworking, or related manufacturing
- Prior experience handling both structural and finished-goods inspection preferred
