Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced SolidWorks Designer to join our Design & Engineering team.
The successful candidate will be responsible for converting design concepts, client drawings and site requirements into accurate 3D models, manufacturing drawings and production-ready technical details for furniture, fixtures and display units.
The role requires a strong understanding of furniture construction, metal fabrication, joinery and manufacturing processes, with particular emphasis on designing products that can be efficiently manufactured and assembled.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop detailed 3D models and assemblies in SolidWorks from client drawings, sketches, renders and design concepts.
* Prepare accurate 2D manufacturing/shop drawings for production.
* Develop furniture and retail fixture designs using materials including:
* MDF, plywood and other engineered boards
* Mild steel and stainless steel
* Aluminium
* Glass
* Acrylic
* Laminates and decorative finishes
* Hardware and fittings
* Prepare detailed drawings for woodworking, metal fabrication, CNC machining, laser cutting and assembly.
* Create accurate Bill of Materials (BOM) and component lists.
* Produce exploded views and assembly details where required.
* Design sheet-metal components using appropriate SolidWorks Sheet Metal features.
* Prepare DXF/DWG files for CNC, laser cutting and other manufacturing processes.
* Ensure designs consider manufacturability, material optimisation, strength, tolerances and ease of assembly.
* Review client drawings and identify potential manufacturing or technical issues before production.
* Coordinate with the production, CNC, metal, carpentry, finishing and assembly teams.
* Make drawing revisions based on client comments, production feedback and site requirements.
* Maintain proper drawing numbers, revision control and design documentation.
* Support prototype/sample development and resolve technical issues during manufacturing.
* Ensure final drawings accurately reflect approved dimensions, materials, finishes and construction methods.
Required Skills & Experience
* Strong working knowledge of SolidWorks.
* Good experience in 3D modelling, assemblies and 2D manufacturing drawings.
* Understanding of furniture and fixture construction.
* Good knowledge of sheet metal and fabricated metal components.
* Understanding of manufacturing processes including CNC routing, laser cutting, bending, welding, joinery and assembly.
* Ability to read and interpret architectural, interior design and technical drawings.
* Good understanding of dimensions, tolerances, hardware and material specifications.
* Ability to convert design intent into practical and cost-effective manufacturing solutions.

Software Skills
Essential:
* SolidWorks
* AutoCAD or similar 2D CAD software
* Microsoft Excel
Advantageous:
* SolidWorks PDM
* Rendering/visualisation software
* CNC/CAM software

Experience
Preferred: 3–5 years of relevant SolidWorks/design experience, ideally within furniture, retail fixtures, shopfitting, joinery or a similar manufacturing environment.
What We Are Looking For
We are particularly interested in a production-focused designer, not someone who only creates 3D visual models.
The ideal candidate should understand how a product will actually be manufactured, fabricated, assembled, finished and installed, and should be able to produce drawings that the factory can manufacture from accurately with minimal clarification.
