Job Description: Senior Specialist – Technical Supply Chain Management (Purchasing)Position Summary
The Senior Specialist – Technical Supply Chain Management (Purchasing) is responsible for managing the procurement of technical materials, equipment, and services to support business operations. This role ensures the timely, cost-effective, and quality-driven sourcing of products while collaborating with engineering, operations, quality, logistics, and suppliers to maintain an efficient and resilient supply chain.
The successful candidate will leverage technical knowledge, strategic sourcing expertise, and supplier relationship management skills to optimize purchasing processes, mitigate supply risks, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute purchasing strategies for technical products, components, equipment, and services.
- Source, evaluate, qualify, and negotiate with suppliers to achieve the best value in terms of cost, quality, delivery, and service.
- Manage supplier relationships and conduct regular performance reviews using key performance indicators (KPIs).
- Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, maintenance, quality, and operations teams to understand technical requirements and procurement needs.
- Lead RFQ/RFP processes, supplier selection, commercial negotiations, and contract management.
- Monitor market trends, commodity pricing, supplier capabilities, and potential supply chain risks.
- Ensure material availability to support production schedules while maintaining optimal inventory levels.
- Identify and implement cost reduction, value engineering, and process improvement opportunities.
- Resolve supplier quality, delivery, and commercial issues through effective cross-functional collaboration.
- Ensure compliance with company procurement policies, ethical sourcing standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Support new product introductions by identifying and onboarding capable suppliers.
- Maintain accurate purchasing data, supplier records, contracts, and procurement documentation within ERP systems.
- Analyze purchasing metrics and prepare reports on spend, supplier performance, savings, and procurement effectiveness.
- Participate in business continuity planning by developing alternative sourcing strategies for critical materials.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Engineering, Business Administration, Procurement, or a related discipline.
- 5–8+ years of experience in technical purchasing, strategic sourcing, or supply chain management within a manufacturing, industrial, engineering, or technology environment.
- Professional certifications such as CPSM, CIPS, CSCP, or APICS are preferred.
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of technical procurement and strategic sourcing principles.
- Experience purchasing technical equipment, engineered components, MRO items, or industrial materials.
- Excellent supplier negotiation and contract management skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar).
- Advanced Microsoft Excel and data analysis skills.
- Knowledge of inventory management, logistics, and demand planning.
- Familiarity with quality systems and supplier quality management.
- Strong project management and organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- High level of integrity, professionalism, and attention to detail.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in global sourcing and international supplier management.
- Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience working with cross-functional technical and engineering teams.
- Familiarity with supplier audits, risk assessments, and sustainability initiatives.
