JOB DESCRIPTION – VICE PRINCIPAL

1. Position Summary
The Vice Principal will support the Principal in the overall academic, administrative, operational, and disciplinary management of the school. The role requires a strong educational leader who can ensure high academic standards, effective teacher performance, student wellbeing, parent satisfaction, and smooth day-to-day functioning of the school in alignment with CBSE guidelines and the school's vision and values.
The Vice Principal will act as a key link between the Principal, teachers, students, parents, and school management and will take leadership responsibility in the Principal's absence.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesA. Academic Leadership
- Support the Principal in planning, implementing, and monitoring the academic programme.
- Ensure effective implementation of the CBSE curriculum and school academic policies.
- Monitor lesson planning, teaching methodologies, classroom practices, and academic progress.
- Conduct regular classroom observations and provide constructive feedback to teachers.
- Review academic planners, worksheets, assessments, examinations, and student performance.
- Track learning outcomes and identify students requiring additional academic support.
- Coordinate remedial, enrichment, and activity-based learning programmes.
- Encourage innovative and child-centred teaching practices.
- Work with coordinators and teachers to improve academic standards.
B. Teacher Management & Development
- Supervise teachers and support staff in coordination with the Principal.
- Monitor teacher attendance, punctuality, discipline, classroom management, and professional conduct.
- Conduct regular teacher meetings and academic review meetings.
- Identify training and professional development requirements.
- Mentor new teachers and support their effective integration into the school.
- Assist in teacher performance evaluations and appraisal processes.
- Address teacher concerns and workplace issues professionally.
- Ensure teachers follow school policies, curriculum plans, documentation standards, and safety protocols.
C. Student Management & Discipline
- Maintain a positive, safe, respectful, and child-friendly school environment.
- Monitor student discipline and behaviour across classrooms and common areas.
- Handle serious disciplinary concerns in coordination with the Principal and parents.
- Promote values, leadership, responsibility, and positive behaviour among students.
- Monitor student attendance and follow up on persistent absenteeism.
- Support student counselling and wellbeing initiatives.
- Ensure appropriate safeguarding and child-protection practices are followed.
D. School Administration & Operations
- Support the Principal in managing the daily functioning of the school.
- Ensure smooth coordination between academic and administrative departments.
- Monitor daily school routines, assemblies, dispersal, breaks, transitions, and special activities.
- Assist with school timetables, duty allocation, substitutions, and teacher deployment.
- Ensure proper maintenance of academic and administrative records.
- Coordinate examinations, PTMs, events, field trips, celebrations, and school programmes.
- Ensure school facilities are safe, clean, functional, and suitable for students.
- Coordinate with transport, housekeeping, security, and other operational teams when required.
E. Parent & Community Relations
- Build positive and professional relationships with parents.
- Address parent concerns and grievances promptly and appropriately.
- Participate in PTMs and parent orientation programmes.
- Communicate school expectations, academic policies, and student-related concerns effectively.
- Work closely with the admissions and front-office teams when required.
- Support initiatives aimed at improving parent satisfaction and student retention.
F. CBSE Compliance & Documentation
- Support the Principal in ensuring compliance with applicable CBSE requirements.
- Maintain and monitor academic documentation and school records.
- Assist in preparing documents required for inspections, audits, and school reviews.
- Ensure implementation of school policies in line with applicable CBSE norms.
- Stay updated with relevant CBSE circulars, curriculum changes, assessment practices, and educational requirements.
- Support the Principal in implementing recommendations arising from inspections or internal reviews.
G. School Events & Activities
- Plan and coordinate academic and co-curricular events.
- Supervise celebrations, competitions, assemblies, annual day, sports events, field trips, and other programmes.
- Ensure events are organised safely, efficiently, and within approved budgets.
- Encourage student participation in co-curricular and extracurricular activities.
H. Leadership & School Improvement
- Work closely with the Principal to develop and implement school improvement plans.
- Analyse academic, behavioural, attendance, and operational data to identify areas for improvement.
- Establish measurable goals for academic and operational performance.
- Encourage a culture of accountability, teamwork, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Deputise for the Principal when required and take appropriate decisions within delegated authority.
3. Required Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Education / Psychology / English / relevant discipline preferred.
- B.Ed. is preferred and may be required depending on the applicable role and school requirements.
- Minimum 5–8 years of experience in school education, preferably in a CBSE school.
- Prior experience in a leadership or coordination role such as Academic Coordinator, Headmistress, Senior Coordinator, or Vice Principal is preferred.
- Strong understanding of CBSE curriculum, assessment, and school administration.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and organisational abilities.

7. Authority & Reporting
The Vice Principal will work under the direct supervision of the Principal and School Management.
The Vice Principal may be authorised to take operational and academic decisions within the limits delegated by the Principal and school management and will be responsible for reporting significant academic, disciplinary, staffing, and operational matters.
