Work Environment: Production Mainframe / Enterprise Infrastructure
Shift Requirement: Must be flexible to work during customer business hours across US, Europe, and Asia Pacific, including on-call support during weekends and holidays when required.
Job Summary
We are looking for an experienced Mainframe Storage Specialist with 9+ years of hands-on experience in Mainframe Storage Administration.
The candidate will be responsible for managing enterprise mainframe storage environments, including DASD, Tape, DFSMS, HSM, RMM, storage migration, replication, disaster recovery, space management, and performance monitoring.
The role requires strong troubleshooting skills, production support experience, and the ability to resolve critical storage issues within defined SLAs.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and support enterprise Mainframe Storage environments.
- Perform DASD-to-DASD and Tape-to-Tape data migrations.
- Manage storage replication and copy services.
- Initialize and add new DASD volumes and Tape volumes.
- Perform storage space-management activities, including:
- VTOC resizing
- Defragmentation
- Compression and reclamation
- Dataset release and cleanup
- Define and manage SMS rules and ACS routines.
- Manage and reorganize storage datasets, including RMM/HSM CDS and Catalog files.
- Develop and maintain backup, restore, performance-tuning, and storage-configuration procedures.
- Perform incremental backups as required.
- Plan and execute Disaster Recovery (DR) activities and recovery tests.
- Support Tape Recovery, DASD Replication, and Tape Replication.
- Manage Copy Services and GDPS environments.
- Perform root cause analysis for storage and production incidents.
- Resolve technical issues within agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
- Perform business-impact and risk assessments to minimize the possibility of major service outages.
- Identify recurring incidents and contribute to problem-management initiatives.
- Lead daily operations meetings when there are no active P1 incidents.
- Maintain technical documentation and operational procedures.
- Provide technical support for production mainframe environments involving multiple LPARs, CECs, DASD, and VTS controllers.
