Job Summary
The Horticulture Supervisor is responsible for planning, supervising, and maintaining all horticultural and landscaping activities across the campus. The role ensures that gardens, lawns, plantations, ornamental plants, nurseries, and green spaces are aesthetically maintained while promoting sustainable landscaping practices. The supervisor manages gardeners, coordinates maintenance schedules, and ensures the healthy growth of plants, trees, and shrubs.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the maintenance of lawns, gardens, flower beds, hedges, shrubs, and trees.
- Ensure regular watering, pruning, trimming, mowing, weeding, and fertilization of all landscaped areas.
- Monitor plant health and recommend appropriate treatments for diseases and pest infestations.
- Plan and execute seasonal plantation and beautification projects.
- Oversee nursery operations including propagation, transplantation, and maintenance of plants.
- Maintain records of plantation, replacements, and survival rates.
- Ensure timely replacement of damaged or dead plants.
- Supervise and allocate daily work to gardeners and horticulture staff.
- Monitor attendance, productivity, and performance of the horticulture team.
- Train staff on safe gardening practices and equipment handling.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of gardening tools and machinery.
- Identify plant diseases, pest infestations, and nutrient deficiencies.
- Coordinate safe application of pesticides, fungicides, and fertilizers.
- Ensure compliance with environmental and safety guidelines during chemical usage.
- Maintain inventory of seeds, fertilizers, pesticides, gardening tools, and equipment.
- Raise purchase requisitions for horticulture materials.
- Monitor irrigation systems and ensure efficient water management.
- Promote rainwater harvesting, composting, and organic gardening practices where feasible.
- Maintain records of maintenance schedules, plantation activities, chemical usage, and inventory.
- Prepare monthly reports on horticulture activities and landscape improvements.
- Ensure adherence to safety procedures while handling equipment and chemicals.
- Maintain a clean and hazard-free working environment.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Horticulture.
- 3–6 years of experience in horticulture, landscaping, or garden maintenance.
- Experience supervising horticulture staff in institutions, hospitals, universities, hotels, or large campuses is preferred.
- Knowledge of irrigation systems and landscape maintenance.
- Basic computer knowledge for record keeping and reporting.
- Problem-solving and communication skills.
