About ICEM Engineering
ICEM Engineering Co. (India) Pvt. Ltd., established in 1964, is a leading manufacturer of explosion-bonded clad plates and precision-formed pressure vessel components (dished ends, rolled shells, cones, expansion bellows). ICEM’s explosion-bonded clad plates — combining carbon steel base plates with corrosion-resistant alloys such as SS 316L, Inconel 825, Alloy C276, and Super Duplex — are heavily used in chemical process environments. The company is now expanding into complete chemical process equipment fabrication, leveraging its ASME U and R stamps, in-house forming, and clad plate capabilities.
Role Purpose
Drive order booking from India’s chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, agrochemical, and fertiliser sectors — both from end-users operating process plants and from the EPC contractors and equipment fabricators who serve them. This role specifically targets applications where ICEM’s clad plate and corrosion-resistant material expertise gives it a competitive edge: reactors, columns, heat exchangers, storage vessels, and process vessels handling corrosive media such as acids, alkalis, chlorides, and high-temperature chemical streams. The primary market is India; experience with chemical equipment export is a valued bonus.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a business development plan targeting Indian chemical end-users (Tata Chemicals, UPL, Aarti Industries, SRF, Gujarat Fluorochemicals, Deepak Nitrite, GNFC, GSFC, RCF, NFL) and EPC/equipment contractors serving the chemical sector (L&T, Thermax, Ion Exchange, Praj Industries, Thyssenkrupp Industrial Solutions India, etc.)
- Position ICEM’s explosion-bonded clad plates as the preferred solution for corrosion-resistant vessel fabrication, emphasising the cost advantage of clad construction over solid alloy for chemical process equipment
- Identify opportunities arising from India’s expanding chemical manufacturing base: PLI schemes, specialty chemical capacity additions, green hydrogen projects requiring electrolysers and associated vessels, and fertiliser plant revamps
- Secure vendor registrations / AVL listings at target chemical companies, pharma companies (for utility/process vessels), and their EPC contractors
- Prepare techno-commercial proposals for process vessels, reactors, columns, and heat exchangers, coordinating with ICEM’s estimation and engineering teams on material selection (clad vs solid alloy), weight estimates, and delivery schedules
- Advise clients on optimal material combinations for their process conditions — leveraging ICEM’s experience with CS+SS 316L, CS+Inconel 825, CS+Alloy C276, CS+Super Duplex, and other clad combinations
- Manage the sales cycle from inquiry through technical clarification, commercial negotiation, and order closure, with particular attention to material specification compliance and corrosion allowance discussions
- Track chemical industry capital expenditure announcements, PCPIR developments, and pharma/agrochem expansion projects across India
- Coordinate with ICEM’s QA team on the stringent quality documentation requirements typical of chemical sector clients (ASME compliance, NACE requirements for sour service, corrosion test reports, etc.)
- Provide weekly pipeline reports with order booking forecasts, inquiry tracking, and client visit summaries to the Managing Director
- Represent ICEM at chemical industry events such as India Chem, ChemTech World Expo, CPHI India, and Chemexcil exhibitions
Requirements & Qualifications
- B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering (mandatory); MBA is a plus
- 8–15 years of sales/BD experience selling process equipment (reactors, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, columns) to Indian chemical, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, or fertiliser clients
- Demonstrable track record of order booking from chemical sector clients (candidates must provide verifiable references)
- Strong understanding of corrosion mechanisms in chemical environments and the role of clad/lined construction, exotic alloys, and material selection in equipment design
- Working knowledge of ASME Section VIII Div.1/2, TEMA, NACE MR0175, and material specifications relevant to chemical service (SA 240, SA 264, SB 424, SB 575, etc.)
- Familiarity with chemical plant procurement practices, HAZOP-driven equipment specifications, and the role of process licensors (Haldor Topsøe, Axens, KBR, etc.) in specifying equipment
- Existing relationships at target Indian chemical companies and/or their EPC contractors will be a significant advantage
- Understanding of pharma/biotech utility vessel requirements (GMP considerations, surface finish, documentation) is a bonus
- Willingness to travel 40–50% domestically to chemical belt locations (Gujarat PCPIR, Ratnagiri, Dahej, Bharuch, Visakhapatnam, Haldia, etc.)
- Strong communication in English and Hindi; Gujarati is a significant advantage given the concentration of India’s chemical industry in Gujarat
- Experience with chemical equipment export is a bonus but not required
Key Performance Indicators
- Annual order booking value from chemical/pharma/fertiliser clients
- Number of new chemical end-user / EPC AVL registrations secured per year
- Proposal-to-order conversion ratio
- Pipeline value maintained at 3–4x annual booking target
- Proportion of orders leveraging ICEM’s clad plate capability (higher = better strategic alignment)
What ICEM Offers
- A sector-leadership role at the intersection of ICEM’s core clad plate competency and India’s booming chemical manufacturing sector
- Direct reporting to the Managing Director with full autonomy to build the chemical vertical
- Unique product differentiation: ICEM is one of India’s few manufacturers offering both explosion-bonded clad plates and formed components under one roof — a significant selling point for chemical process equipment
- Performance-linked incentives directly tied to order booking value
- Cross-sector exposure through ICEM’s diversified client base spanning O&G, steel, power, and defence
