Job Summary:
The Melting Supervisor oversees the melting operations to ensure the efficient, safe, and high-quality production of molten steel materials. This role involves supervising a team of furnace operators and technicians, maintaining furnace equipment, and ensuring adherence to production schedules and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise day-to-day melting operations, including furnace start-up, melting, tapping, and slag removal.
- Ensure proper handling and charging of raw materials (scrap, alloys, fluxes) according to batch recipes.
- Monitor furnace parameters such as temperature, melt time, and chemical composition to maintain quality.
- Coordinate with the quality control team to ensure molten material meets required specifications.
- Maintain production logs and records, including material usage, melt cycles, and downtime.
- Ensure that all activities comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections and maintenance of melting equipment, including furnaces, ladles, and refractories.
- Lead, train, and evaluate melting team members to ensure high performance and compliance with SOPs.
- Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams for equipment troubleshooting and improvements.
- Assist in process optimization, yield improvement, and reduction of energy consumption.
Requirements:
- Diploma or degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- 1–5 years of experience in melting operations, with at least 1–2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of furnace operations (induction, electric arc, cupola, etc.).
- Familiarity with melt chemistry, alloying practices, and metallurgical testing.
- Good leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Understanding of workplace safety practices, PPE requirements, and environmental compliance.
