YourStory and The CapTable are India’s most closely watched platforms for startup, technology, and new economy journalism. We combine the urgency of breaking news with the depth of long-form narrative to tell the stories that shape India’s business landscape. We are now looking for talented journalists who want to do work that matters.
You will be a senior reporter across both YourStory and The CapTable, covering India’s startup, venture capital, fintech, and technology ecosystem. The role demands range: you will break news that moves markets and conversations, and you will write long-form features that stand up months after publication. You will also contribute to our newsletters, which are read by founders, investors, and policymakers across the country.
This is not a beat-and-file role. We are looking for journalists who can work a source, spot a pattern, and tell a story that no one else has told. You should be as comfortable turning around a 500-word breaking story in minutes as you are spending days on a 2,000-word feature.
- Break news on funding rounds, leadership changes, regulatory shifts, and corporate strategy across India’s startup and technology sectors
- Report and write long-form features and analyses for The CapTable, with the narrative quality and rigour expected of a premium business journalism platform
- Contribute to newsletters with sharp, well-sourced writing that adds perspective beyond the headline
- Cultivate and maintain a deep source network across founders, investors, bankers, regulators, and operators
- Participate actively in story ideation, editorial planning, and newsroom discussions
- Adapt to new formats, platforms, and editorial experiments as the journalism landscape evolves
- Contribute to multimedia initiatives, including podcasts and piece-to-camera segments, as the newsroom expands its storytelling formats
- 5–7 years of experience covering startups, technology, venture capital, or the broader business ecosystem, with a demonstrable track record of breaking news
- A portfolio that includes both breaking stories and long-form journalism—we will ask to see both
- Strong command of the English language; the ability to write clean, precise prose that does not lean on jargon or cliché
- Source networks that you have built and nurtured over time
- A team-first temperament: willingness to share leads, help colleagues, and put the newsroom’s interests ahead of individual bylines when needed
- Curiosity about and willingness to adapt to new tools, formats, and ways of working, including AI-assisted workflows, podcasts, and on-camera storytelling
- A genuine interest in India’s new economy and the forces—capital, policy, technology, and ambition—that are reshaping it
