Purchase Officer – Civil Construction - Vadodara
Job Summary
The Purchase Officer is responsible for procuring construction materials, equipment, and subcontracting services required for civil construction projects. The role involves vendor identification, price negotiation, purchase order management, inventory coordination, and ensuring timely delivery of quality materials while adhering to project budgets and company procurement policies.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and procure construction materials, equipment, and services as per project requirements.
- Obtain quotations from multiple vendors and prepare comparative statements.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, delivery schedules, and contract conditions.
- Issue purchase orders and ensure timely order processing.
- Coordinate with site engineers, project managers, and stores to understand material requirements.
- Track purchase orders and ensure on-time delivery to project sites.
- Verify material quality, quantity, and specifications against purchase orders.
- Develop and maintain a reliable vendor database and evaluate supplier performance.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate with stores to prevent shortages or excess stock.
- Process invoices and coordinate with the accounts department for timely payments.
- Ensure procurement complies with company policies, budgets, and quality standards.
- Prepare procurement reports, cost analyses, and documentation for management.
- Resolve supplier issues related to quality, delivery, and pricing.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field.
- 3–7 years of experience in procurement for civil construction or infrastructure projects.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of civil construction materials and specifications.
- Vendor sourcing, negotiation, and relationship management.
- Cost analysis and budget control.
- Purchase order and contract management.
- Inventory planning and material coordination.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, Tally, or construction ERP).
- Good communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple procurement activities simultaneously.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in residential, commercial, industrial, or infrastructure construction projects.
- Knowledge of local and national procurement regulations.
- Familiarity with BOQs (Bill of Quantities), material planning, and project scheduling.
