Position:* Lead AWS RDS Support Engineer*
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Lead AWS RDS Support Engineer to join our Database Services team. The ideal candidate will have extensive hands-on experience managing Oracle and PostgreSQL/MySQL databases in AWS RDS environments, with a strong background in production support, database performance tuning, troubleshooting, automation, and cloud database migrations.
As a technical leader, you will be responsible for ensuring the availability, performance, security, and reliability of mission-critical database environments while mentoring junior engineers and driving continuous improvements across database operations.
Key Responsibilities
- 7 to 10 years of hands-on database administration, support, and engineering experience, with at least 4+ years exclusively focused on AWS Cloud database platforms.
- Manage and support Oracle and PostgreSQL/MySql databases on AWS RDS
- Provide 24x7 production support and participate in on-call rotations
- Act as the senior escalation point (L1/L2) for complex production database outages, critical performance degradations, and severe engine-level bugs.
- Troubleshoot database performance, SQL queries, locking, blocking, connectivity, storage, and capacity issues
- Lead post-incident Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reviews, author clear post-mortems, and implement long-term preventative fixes.
- Perform database patching, upgrades, backup/recovery, maintenance, and migrations
- Lead critical production incident resolution, RCA, and preventive actions
- Manage AWS RDS features including Multi-AZ, automated backups, snapshots, parameter groups, monitoring, and security
- Perform Oracle performance analysis using AWR, ASH, execution plans, and wait events
- Manage PostgreSQL/MySql performance activities including VACUUM, ANALYZE, indexing, query tuning, and backup/restore
- Automate database administration and operational activities using Python, Shell/Bash, SQL, and PL/SQL
- Work with AWS services such as CloudWatch, IAM, Secrets Manager, S3, Lambda, and AWS DMS
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to junior database engineers
- Design and execute homogeneous and heterogeneous database migrations (e.g., legacy on-prem Oracle to Aurora PostgreSQL) using AWS DMS and AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT) with ongoing Change Data Capture (CDC)
Must-Have Skills
✓ 7 – 10 years of database administration and production support experience
✓ Strong hands-on Oracle DBA experience
✓ Strong experience with AWS RDS for Oracle
✓ Hands-on PostgreSQL/MySql administration and AWS RDS for PostgreSQL/MySql experience
✓ Strong SQL performance tuning and production troubleshooting skills
✓ Experience managing high-throughput, multi-terabyte production databases.
✓ Experience with database upgrades, migrations, patching, backup, and recovery
✓ Experience supporting highly available, business-critical production databases
✓ Good scripting/automation skills using Python, Shell/Bash, SQL, or PL/SQL
✓ Strong communication, troubleshooting, incident management, and RCA skills
Good to Have
- AWS Database Migration Service (DMS) experience
- Terraform / CloudFormation / Infrastructure as Code
- AWS Certified Database - Specialty or AWS Certified Solutions Architect - Professional.
- Oracle or PostgreSQL certifications
- Experience in managed services and SLA-driven 24x7 production environments
Pay: ₹1,500,000.00 - ₹2,500,000.00 per year
