Job Summary
We are looking for a detail-oriented and knowledgeable IPDRG Medical Coder to join our healthcare coding team.
The candidate will be responsible for reviewing inpatient medical records and accurately assigning diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with applicable coding guidelines, DRG methodology, documentation requirements, billing, reimbursement, and compliance standards.
The ideal candidate should have good knowledge of IPDRG, MS-DRG, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, medical terminology, and inpatient coding guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
- Review inpatient medical records and assign accurate ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, IPDRG and MS-DRG codes.
- Analyze clinical documentation for accurate and appropriate DRG assignment.
- Identify documentation gaps and discrepancies and coordinate for clarification when required.
- Maintain required productivity, quality, and accuracy standards.
- Ensure coding is performed in accordance with applicable coding guidelines and compliance requirements.
- Stay updated with changes in coding regulations, DRG methodology, payer requirements, and industry guidelines.
- Participate in internal audits, quality reviews, and process improvement activities.
- Support accurate billing, reimbursement, clinical reporting, and compliance.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and security of patient information.
Required Qualifications
- Valid certification in any one of the following:
- CPC – Certified Professional Coder
- CCS – Certified Coding Specialist
- CIC – Certified Inpatient Coder
- Minimum 6 months of hands-on experience in IPDRG / Inpatient Medical Coding.
- Good knowledge of ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and MS-DRG classifications.
- Strong understanding of inpatient coding guidelines.
- Medical coding / healthcare / Health Information Management background preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of IPDRG and MS-DRG coding.
- Good understanding of medical terminology and clinical documentation.
- Excellent attention to detail and coding accuracy.
- Ability to interpret complex medical records and make appropriate coding decisions.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently as well as in a team.
- Good time-management skills.
- Ability to achieve productivity and quality targets.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to changing coding guidelines and workflows.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and coding software.
- Familiarity with audit and quality assurance processes.
