Role Summary
The Civil Engineer Intern will support the project team in the planning, execution, supervision and documentation of civil works associated with solid waste management facilities, Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plants and other environmental infrastructure projects. The internship will provide practical, site-based exposure to civil construction, quality control, quantity estimation and project coordination.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist project engineers in the day-to-day supervision of civil construction activities.
- Support civil works related to waste-processing facilities, segregation sheds, composting areas, material-recovery facilities, internal roads, drains and leachate-management systems.
- Assist in the construction of STP structures, including collection tanks, aeration tanks, clarifiers, filter units, pump rooms and other water-retaining structures.
- Support CBG plant civil works such as feedstock-receiving areas, digesters, gas holders, equipment foundations, slurry tanks, utility buildings and internal infrastructure.
- Read and understand civil, structural and construction drawings.
- Check site layouts, line, levels, dimensions and reinforcement details under the guidance of project engineers.
- Record site measurements and assist in quantity estimation, BOQ preparation and contractor-bill verification.
- Assist in preparing bar-bending schedules and material requirements.
- Monitor the receipt, usage and availability of construction materials.
- Support inspections of excavation, PCC, RCC, reinforcement, shuttering, masonry, plastering and finishing works.
- Help ensure that construction is executed according to approved drawings, specifications and quality standards.
- Coordinate with contractors, supervisors, labour teams, vendors and other engineering disciplines.
- Maintain daily progress reports, measurement records, site photographs and project documentation.
- Follow site safety procedures and report unsafe conditions to the project engineer.
- Assist in tracking project schedules, work progress and pending site activities.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of civil construction practices and engineering drawings.
- Knowledge of quantity estimation, BOQ preparation and site measurements.
- Basic proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Excel and MS Office.
- Good observation, communication and documentation skills.
- Willingness to learn and work in a site-based environment.
- Ability to coordinate effectively with engineers, contractors and workers.
- Willingness to travel or stay at project locations when required.
Eligibility
- BE/B.Tech or Diploma in Civil Engineering.
- Fresh graduates and final-year students may apply.
- Candidates with academic projects or training in water treatment, wastewater management, waste management, renewable energy or industrial construction will be preferred.
