A Senior Design Manager – Electrical is a senior engineering leadership role responsible for overseeing the planning, design, coordination, and delivery of electrical systems for projects such as commercial buildings, industrial facilities, data centers, infrastructure, or manufacturing plants.
Typical responsibilities include:
- Leading teams of electrical engineers and designers.
- Managing electrical system design, including power distribution, lighting, grounding, fire alarm, and low-voltage systems.
- Reviewing and approving engineering drawings, calculations, and technical specifications.
- Coordinating with architects, structural, mechanical, and civil engineering teams.
- Ensuring compliance with applicable electrical codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Managing project budgets, schedules, and resource allocation.
- Providing technical guidance and mentoring junior engineers.
- Supporting client meetings, proposals, and business development activities.
- Identifying and mitigating technical and project risks.
- Overseeing quality assurance and resolving design-related issues during construction.
Typical qualifications
- Diploma (EEE) / Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Master's degree is often preferred).
- 10–15+ years of experience in electrical design engineering.
- Several years of experience leading engineering teams and projects.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent (often preferred or required).
- Proficiency with tools such as AutoCAD, Revit MEP or similar electrical design software.
- Strong knowledge of electrical codes and standards (such as NEC, IEC, IEEE, NFPA, depending on the region).
