About the Role
Fortenet Skills Network is seeking a highly capable Backend Developer who can independently design, build, and maintain scalable backend systems. This role requires strong ownership, architectural thinking, and the ability to develop production-grade backend services without supervision.
You will be responsible for building secure APIs, designing efficient database structures, handling system scalability, and ensuring backend reliability in real-world production environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable backend architecture using Node.js and Express.js
- Build secure, production-ready REST APIs with proper validation, error handling, and logging
- Design optimized database schemas and queries using MongoDB and/or PostgreSQL
- Implement secure authentication and authorization systems (JWT, refresh tokens, RBAC)
- Ensure system performance, scalability, and reliability
- Handle database performance optimization, indexing, and query tuning
- Integrate cloud services such as AWS (S3, EC2, etc.)
- Implement real-time features using Socket.IO or WebSockets (when required)
- Design systems with proper modular structure and clean architecture
- Troubleshoot production issues and implement long-term solutions
- Maintain proper code quality, documentation, and standards
- Take ownership of backend systems and ensure their stability and maintainability
Required Skills & Qualifications
- 1–3 years of professional experience in backend development
- Strong expertise in Node.js and Express.js
- Strong experience designing and building production-grade REST APIs
- Solid experience with MongoDB and/or PostgreSQL in production environments
- Strong understanding of database design, indexing, and performance optimization
- Experience implementing authentication systems (JWT, refresh tokens, RBAC)
- Strong understanding of asynchronous programming, event loop, and concurrency in Node.js
- Experience handling file uploads and cloud storage systems (AWS S3 or similar)
- Strong understanding of backend security best practices
- Experience working with Git and professional development workflows
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and system design skills
- Ability to independently design and implement backend systems
Preferred Qualifications (Highly Valued)
- Experience designing scalable and maintainable backend architecture
- Experience with real-time systems (Socket.IO, WebSockets)
- Experience with AWS services (S3, EC2, Cloud deployments)
- Experience with Docker and Linux environments
- Understanding of caching systems (Redis)
- Experience handling production deployments and monitoring
