Primary Responsibilities
- Surface Preparation: Remove rust, scale, and old paint from ship hulls and components using hand-held or machine grinders to prepare them for welding, painting, or inspection.
- Weld Finishing: Grind down excess weld material, burrs, and sharp edges to ensure a smooth, uniform finish as per shipyard quality standards.
- Precision Shaping: Use specialized grinding machines to shape metal parts according to technical drawings, blueprints, and specific design tolerances.
- Quality Inspection: Verify the quality of finished workpieces by comparing them to templates and measuring dimensions with instruments like micrometers or calipers.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform basic maintenance on tools and machines, such as changing worn grinding wheels and cleaning work areas.
