Position Summary
The Physician Assistant (CTVS) provides comprehensive clinical and surgical support to Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgeons in the pre-operative, intra-operative, and post-operative management of patients undergoing cardiac, thoracic, and vascular procedures. The role involves patient assessment, perioperative care coordination, surgical assistance, ICU management, clinical documentation, and patient education to ensure high-quality outcomes. Key Responsibilities:-
1. Pre-Operative Care
- Conduct patient history taking and physical examinations.
- Review diagnostic investigations, laboratory reports, ECGs, echocardiograms, and imaging studies.
- Assist in pre-operative evaluation and risk assessment.
- Educate patients and families regarding surgical procedures, expected outcomes, and postoperative care.
- Coordinate pre-surgical preparation and consent processes under physician supervision. (Physician Assistant Education |)
2. Intra-Operative Support
- Assist CTVS surgeons during cardiac, thoracic, and vascular surgeries as First/Second Assistant as per institutional privileges.
- Maintain sterile field and ensure availability of instruments and surgical equipment.
- Assist in vein harvesting, wound closure, chest closure, and other delegated surgical procedures.

3. Post-Operative & ICU Management
- Participate in daily rounds in ICU, HDU, and wards.
- Monitor hemodynamic parameters, drains, chest tubes, pacing wires, and invasive lines.
- Evaluate postoperative recovery and identify complications.
- Assist in ventilator management and critical care monitoring.
- Develop and implement treatment plans under consultant supervision.

4. Clinical Procedures
- Chest tube insertion and removal (as credentialed).
- Arterial and central venous line placement assistance.
- Wound assessment and dressing management.

5. Documentation & Coordination
- Maintain accurate and timely medical records.
- Prepare admission notes, progress notes, discharge summaries, and operative documentation.

6. Patient & Family Education
- Counsel patients regarding medications, lifestyle modifications, wound care, and rehabilitation.

Qualification & ExperienceEducation
- Bachelor's Degree in Physician Assistant Studies (B.Sc. Physician Assistant) or equivalent.
- Certification/Training in Cardiothoracic & Vascular Surgery preferred.
Experience
- 1–5 years of experience in CTVS/Cardiac Surgery/ICU preferred.
- Freshers with internship exposure in CTVS may also be considered.
Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – Mandatory.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Preferred.

- Strong understanding of cardiac, thoracic, and vascular diseases.
- Knowledge of ICU monitoring and critical care management.
- Surgical assisting skills and sterile technique.
