A Design Engineer is responsible for creating and developing a company’s products and systems that meet customer requirements and industry standards. A design engineer’s duties involve researching, creating detailed technical drawings and collaborating with other teams to ensure designs that align with production capabilities. Design Engineers also troubleshoot design-related issues, write technical documentation and stay up-to-date with new technology that can be incorporated into new designs.
A Design Engineer typically has the following duties and responsibilities:
- Developing and designing products and systems based on customer requirements and industry standards
- Conducting research and testing to check the feasibility and viability of the design ideas
- Collaborating with other areas of the organization, such as manufacturing and quality control
- Reviewing and providing feedback on the designs of other engineers
- Maintaining specifications, drawings and technical manuals
- Troubleshooting design-related issues and making necessary changes
- Staying up-to-date with industry trends and new technologies and implementing new designs
- Collaborating with other departments to discuss the financial viability of designs, risk assessments and ensure designs that are economically viable
Qualifications:
-Diploma Degree or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, or a related field with a strong focus on CAD and technical drawing.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in Solidworks, AutoCAD, with proven expertise in fabrication drawings, shop drawings, and technical detailing.
- Proficiency in Solid works as the primary tool.
- Strong portfolio showcasing technical CAD projects, including fabrication and shop drawings, with an additional display of graphic design work as a plus.
