CNC & VMC Setter – Roles and Responsibilities
- Set up and operate CNC and VMC machines as per production requirements and job specifications.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, component drawings, and machining instructions.
- Understand and interpret CNC/VMC programs and make necessary program corrections or offsets.
- Perform machine setting activities, including tool selection, tool mounting, workholding, fixture setting, and job alignment.
- Set and adjust work offsets, tool offsets, tool length compensation, and wear offsets.
- Select suitable cutting tools, inserts, speeds, feeds, and machining parameters as per the material and component requirements.
- Ensure proper job loading, clamping, alignment, and setting before starting production.
- Conduct first-piece inspection and verify component dimensions using measuring instruments such as Vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, height gauges, and other inspection tools.
- Monitor the machining process and make necessary offset corrections to maintain dimensional accuracy.
- Ensure production is carried out as per the approved drawing, process sheet, control plan, and quality standards.
- Identify and rectify machining issues such as dimensional variation, tool wear, surface finish problems, burrs, and tool breakage.
- Monitor tool life and replace worn or damaged tools at the appropriate time.
- Minimize machine idle time, setup time, tool change time, and rejection/rework.
- Maintain proper production output and ensure adherence to the production plan.
- Perform in-process inspection at regular intervals to ensure consistent quality.
- Maintain proper records of production quantity, rejection, rework, tool usage, and machine issues.
- Follow all safety procedures and ensure proper use of PPE while operating and setting machines.
- Perform basic daily machine checks and ensure proper housekeeping around the machine.
- Coordinate with the Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Tool Room teams to resolve production-related issues.
- Support continuous improvement activities, Kaizen, 5S, and productivity improvement initiatives.
- Train and guide junior operators in machine operation, setting, and basic troubleshooting wherever required.
Pay: ₹25,422.17 - ₹40,274.15 per month
