A Cornea and Refractive Surgeon specializing in Phacoemulsification diagnoses and surgically manages anterior segment, corneal, and refractive disorders. They perform advanced vision-correcting procedures (like LASIK and corneal transplants) while managing pre- and post-operative care and leading specialized eye care teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Surgical Execution: Perform independent Phacoemulsification cataract surgeries, refractive procedures (LASIK, PRK, SMILE), and corneal transplants (e.g., PK, DSEK).
- Clinical Diagnostics: Utilize advanced imaging tools such as corneal topography, anterior segment OCT, and specular microscopy.
- Patient Care & Consultations: Lead Outpatient Department (OPD) consultations, evaluate visual requirements, and counsel patients on surgical options and risks.
- Post-Operative Management: Monitor patient recovery, manage complications, and adjust treatment protocols to ensure optimal visual outcomes.
- Team Leadership: Supervise junior ophthalmologists, optometrists, and allied clinical staff.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Degree: Medical degree (MBBS) followed by a postgraduate specialization (MD/MS/DNB) in Ophthalmology.
- Fellowship: Specialized fellowship or advanced training in Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive Surgery.
- Surgical Proficiency: Deep understanding of phaco dynamics, intraocular lens (IOL) power calculations, and laser vision correction technologies.
- Soft Skills: Strong communication, counseling abilities, and sharp attention to detail.
