Dental Assistant Job Description
A Dental Assistant supports dentists in providing high-quality oral healthcare by preparing treatment rooms, assisting during dental procedures, sterilizing instruments, and ensuring patient comfort. They play a key role in maintaining an organized, safe, and efficient dental practice while delivering excellent customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for dental examinations and procedures.
- Assist the dentist during restorative, surgical, and preventive treatments.
- Sterilize and maintain dental instruments and equipment according to infection control protocols.
- Take and develop dental X-rays (where permitted by certification and regulations).
- Prepare and organize treatment rooms before and after patient visits.
- Educate patients on oral hygiene, post-treatment care, and preventive dental practices.
- Maintain accurate patient records and update medical histories.
- Schedule appointments, manage patient files, and assist with front-office duties as needed.
- Monitor inventory and order dental supplies.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control standards.
