Senior WebRTC & Live Streaming Architect / Lead Engineer
About the Role
Allneeda is seeking a highly experienced Senior WebRTC & Live Streaming Architect / Lead Engineer to design and lead the development of our real-time video, audio and live-streaming infrastructure.
You will own the technical architecture for low-latency live broadcasting, audio/video rooms, host and guest participation, large-scale audience delivery, recording, moderation and real-time engagement features.
This is a hands-on technical leadership position. The successful candidate must be capable of designing the architecture, building critical media components, guiding engineers, reviewing code and operating reliable production systems designed to scale toward millions of users.
Key Responsibilities
- Design the complete architecture for one-to-one, one-to-many and multi-participant live audio/video experiences.
- Build and optimize WebRTC media pipelines for low latency, reliability and consistent quality across mobile and web applications.
- Select, implement and operate appropriate SFU/media-server technologies such as LiveKit, mediasoup, Janus, Jitsi, Pion, Kurento or equivalent platforms.
- Architect STUN and TURN infrastructure using technologies such as Coturn to support users behind NAT, firewalls and restricted networks.
- Design scalable ingest and delivery workflows using WebRTC, RTMP, SRT, HLS, LL-HLS or MPEG-DASH.
- Develop video-processing and transcoding pipelines using FFmpeg, GStreamer or equivalent technologies.
- Design adaptive-bitrate streaming, simulcast, SVC, codec negotiation and bandwidth-management strategies.
- Support modern codecs such as H.264, H.265/HEVC, VP8, VP9, Opus and AV1 where appropriate.
- Design cloud-native media infrastructure using AWS, Azure or Google Cloud, Docker, Kubernetes and automated scaling.
- Integrate CDN and edge-delivery services to support large live audiences across multiple geographic regions.
- Develop architecture for live hosts, co-hosts, guests, moderators, audience members and invitation workflows.
- Support live recording, replay, clipping, thumbnails and secure media storage.
- Architect real-time chat, reactions, virtual gifts, polls, challenges and other synchronized engagement features.
- Design moderation capabilities, including stream reporting, host controls, participant removal, content review and emergency stream termination.
- Establish service-level objectives for startup time, glass-to-glass latency, buffering, availability and media quality.
- Implement monitoring for latency, bitrate, packet loss, jitter, frame rate, connection failures and regional performance.
- Build dashboards, alerts and incident-response procedures using tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, CloudWatch, Datadog or equivalent systems.
- Conduct load, stress, failover and network-condition testing before production releases.
- Implement secure signaling, authentication, authorization, token management, encryption and protection against unauthorized stream access.
- Create architecture diagrams, technical specifications, capacity plans, deployment procedures and disaster-recovery documentation.
- Lead technical design reviews, mentor engineers, establish coding standards and coordinate with mobile, backend, frontend, DevOps, security and product teams.
- Participate in production troubleshooting and lead the resolution of critical streaming incidents.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional software or infrastructure engineering experience.
- 4+ years of direct, production-level WebRTC or live-streaming experience.
- Demonstrated experience architecting and operating a large-scale live video or real-time communications platform.
- Deep understanding of WebRTC signaling, SDP, ICE, STUN, TURN, RTP, RTCP, SRTP, NAT traversal and congestion control.
- Hands-on experience with at least one production SFU or media platform, such as LiveKit, mediasoup, Janus, Jitsi, Pion or an equivalent system.
- Strong experience with FFmpeg, GStreamer or similar media-processing technologies.
- Strong understanding of HLS, LL-HLS, RTMP, SRT and CDN-based audience delivery.
- Experience with adaptive bitrate, simulcast, SVC and audio/video codec selection.
- Proficiency in at least one backend language commonly used for media systems, such as Go, C++, Rust, Java, Node.js/TypeScript, Python or C#.
- Strong experience with Docker, Kubernetes, microservices and cloud infrastructure.
- Experience with Redis, Kafka, RabbitMQ or equivalent technologies for distributed state and event processing.
- Strong knowledge of observability, performance testing, autoscaling, high availability and disaster recovery.
- Experience designing secure APIs, WebSocket signaling services and distributed real-time systems.
- Ability to lead engineers while remaining directly involved in architecture, implementation and production operations.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex architecture clearly.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting at least 10,000 concurrent live viewers or a similarly demanding real-time workload.
- Experience with mobile WebRTC implementations on iOS, Android, Flutter or React Native.
- Experience with cloud media services such as AWS IVS, AWS Media Services, Azure Communication Services, Agora, Dolby.io, Cloudflare Stream, Mux or equivalent platforms.
- Experience designing hybrid architectures that combine WebRTC for interactive participants with CDN streaming for large audiences.
- Knowledge of content moderation, copyright protection, watermarking and stream-security technologies.
- Experience with multi-region deployment, geographic routing and edge computing.
- Experience optimizing cloud bandwidth, transcoding and TURN-relay expenses.
- Open-source contributions or demonstrable projects involving real-time media technologies.
