Job Summary
The Sr. Chemist – Raw Materials will be responsible for conducting and overseeing physical and chemical quality testing of raw materials, slag, and process outputs for the Ferro Alloy Unit. The role involves ensuring accurate testing, documentation, reporting, equipment maintenance, and compliance with quality standards and SOPs.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Testing
- Lead and conduct physical and chemical quality tests on raw materials using approved testing methods and laboratory equipment.
- Maintain accurate documentation of quality testing activities and submit reports to the reporting manager.
- Supervise sample collection from incoming raw materials, production units, and slag.
- Ensure accurate reporting of finished goods testing in internal systems and SAP.
- Prepare and circulate daily quality reports to relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure proper grade labeling and allocation of finished goods for dispatch.
- Conduct additional quality tests as required by management.
- Ensure timely calibration and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
- Raise maintenance requests for laboratory equipment and purchase requisitions for required chemicals.
Administration
- Oversee shift-wise data entry and documentation of quality test results.
- Prepare and submit daily quality and manpower utilization reports.
- Ensure adequate manpower availability across shifts.
- Ensure compliance with all safety regulations, SOPs, and quality procedures.
- Perform any additional responsibilities assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or a related field.
Experience
- Minimum 3 years of experience in raw material testing.
- Experience in the steel, ferro alloy, or manufacturing industry is mandatory.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of laboratory testing methods and quality standards.
- Experience in quality laboratory operations.
- Knowledge of SAP and MS Office, especially MS Excel.
- Documentation and reporting skills.
