Our Shipping team is at the heart of the ecommerce experience, influencing critical buying and selling decisions by delivering the best shipping options and enabling seamless post-purchase delivery experiences for millions of buyers and sellers worldwide.
We build and operate highly scalable distributed systems that power global shipping, fulfillment, and logistics capabilities across eBay’s marketplace. Our mission is to innovate and optimize shipping and logistics experiences to enable borderless commerce at scale.
As a Senior Software Architect, you will play a critical role in defining and evolving the architecture of eBay’s next-generation shipping and logistics platforms. You will provide hands-on technical leadership in designing, building, and operating highly scalable, resilient backend systems that support high-volume, low-latency, and high-availability workloads.
You will partner closely with engineering, product, and business teams to solve complex logistics challenges, drive architectural innovation, and improve platform scalability, reliability, and operational excellence.
Lead the architecture and design of large-scale distributed systems powering eBay’s Shipping platform
Drive development of high-performance backend services with strong focus on scalability, reliability, and resiliency
Define and implement architectural strategies that improve transaction efficiency, system throughput, and customer experience
Design scalable integrations with global carrier and logistics ecosystems
Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, payments, and fulfillment teams to deliver innovative platform capabilities
Mentor engineers and technical leads, promoting engineering excellence, best practices, and architectural standards
Evaluate and adopt emerging technologies to improve platform performance, interoperability, and operational efficiency
Contribute hands-on to critical system design, implementation, troubleshooting, and production operations
12+ years of software development experience building large-scale, high-volume distributed systems
Strong experience designing and architecting microservices-based cloud platforms
Proven expertise in backend system architecture and scaling platforms for significant user and transaction growth
Experience in shipping, logistics, supply chain, or fulfillment domains is highly preferred
Proficiency in Java or Python, with deep understanding of distributed systems and backend engineering principles
Strong knowledge of cloud-native technologies, APIs, event-driven architectures, and CI/CD practices
Demonstrated ability to solve complex technical problems and influence architectural decisions across teams
Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Experience working in Agile environments and modern software delivery practices
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience)
