job Summary
The Machine Room Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation, monitoring, and maintenance of the ammonia refrigeration system, cold storage facilities, compressors, condensers, pumps, and related utilities within the seafood processing factory. The role ensures uninterrupted cooling operations, product quality preservation, and compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesRefrigeration System Operations
- Operate and monitor ammonia refrigeration systems, compressors, condensers, evaporators, pumps, and cooling equipment.
- Maintain required temperatures in cold stores, blast freezers, processing rooms, and chilled storage areas.
- Monitor ammonia tank pressure, liquid levels, temperature, and system performance.
- Perform routine checks on valves, pipelines, gauges, motors, and refrigeration controls.
- Record operating parameters such as suction pressure, discharge pressure, oil levels, and temperatures in logbooks.
Cold Store Management
- Ensure cold storage rooms maintain specified temperature and humidity levels.
- Monitor defrost cycles and refrigeration efficiency.
- Coordinate with production and warehouse teams to maintain proper storage conditions for seafood products.
Maintenance & Troubleshooting
- Identify and troubleshoot mechanical or refrigeration system issues.
- Carry out preventive maintenance and minor repairs on refrigeration equipment.
- Report major breakdowns and coordinate with maintenance technicians or contractors.
- Ensure compressors and auxiliary equipment are properly lubricated and maintained.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow ammonia handling procedures and emergency response protocols.
- Conduct regular inspections for ammonia leaks and ensure safety devices are functional.
- Maintain compliance with factory safety standards, environmental regulations, and HACCP requirements.
- Use appropriate PPE while working in machine rooms and cold storage areas.
- Participate in emergency drills and incident response activities.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain daily operational logs and maintenance records.
- Report abnormalities, equipment failures, and safety concerns immediately.
- Assist in energy consumption monitoring and optimization initiatives.
Qualifications
- Diploma / ITI / Technical certification in Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- Certification in ammonia refrigeration handling is preferred.
- Knowledge of industrial refrigeration systems and cold storage operations.
Experience
- Minimum 2–5 years of experience in industrial refrigeration or cold storage operations.
- Experience in seafood processing, food manufacturing, or cold chain industry preferred.
- Hands-on experience with ammonia refrigeration systems is mandatory.
Skills & Competencies
- Knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems and safety practices.
- Basic mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read pressure gauges, P&ID drawings, and operating manuals.
- Good understanding of cold storage temperature control.
- Strong attention to safety and operational discipline.
- Ability to work shifts, weekends, and emergency call-outs if required.
Working Conditions
- Work involves exposure to cold environments, machinery noise, and industrial equipment.
- Shift-based work including night shifts may be required.
- Must be physically fit to work in industrial and cold storage conditions.
Key Safety Requirements
- Strict adherence to ammonia safety procedures.
- Immediate reporting of leaks, unusual odors, or system abnormalities.
- Proper use of emergency shutdown systems and PPE.
Pay: ₹18,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
