Job Summary
The Design engineer / Senior Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing sheet metal products, assemblies, and fabrication processes to meet customer requirements and manufacturing standards. The role involves leading design projects, coordinating with cross-functional teams, ensuring manufacturability, cost optimization, quality compliance, and supporting new product development from concept through production.
Key Roles & Responsibilities1. Product Design & Development
- Design and develop sheet metal components, assemblies, and fabricated products using CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Creo.
- Create 3D models, detailed manufacturing drawings, and assembly drawings.
- Develop innovative design solutions based on customer specifications and industry standards.
- Conduct design modifications and engineering change management activities.
- Ensure compliance with customer requirements, safety standards, and regulatory specifications.
2. Design for Manufacturing (DFM)
- Optimize product designs for manufacturability, assembly, cost reduction, and quality improvement.
- Apply sheet metal design principles including bending allowances, K-factor calculations, tolerances, welding clearances, and material utilization.
- Review fabrication feasibility considering laser cutting, punching, bending, welding, machining, and assembly operations.
- Minimize material wastage and improve production efficiency through effective nesting and design optimization.
3. Project Management
- Lead engineering projects from concept to production release.
- Prepare project timelines and monitor design milestones.
- Coordinate with customers, production, quality, procurement, and project teams.
- Ensure timely completion of design deliverables.
4. Customer & Technical Support
- Interact with customers to understand technical requirements and project expectations.
- Participate in technical discussions, design reviews, and customer audits.
- Provide engineering support for prototypes, trials, and production issues.
- Resolve technical queries from internal and external stakeholders.
5. Cost Reduction & Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities for value engineering and cost optimization.
- Improve product design for reduced manufacturing costs while maintaining quality requirements.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and lean manufacturing projects.
- Analyze production challenges and implement corrective design solutions.
6. Documentation & Engineering Standards
- Generate and maintain:
- Manufacturing drawings
- Bill of Materials (BOM)
- Work instructions
- Engineering Change Notices (ECN)
- Design calculations and reports
- Maintain design databases and document control systems.
- Ensure compliance with ISO, quality, and customer-specific standards.
7. Prototype & Production Support
- Support prototype development and validation activities.
- Coordinate first article inspections and product qualification processes.
- Assist manufacturing teams during product launch and production ramp-up.
- Troubleshoot design-related issues during fabrication and assembly stages.
8. Team Leadership & Mentoring
- Guide and mentor junior design engineers and CAD designers.
- Conduct design reviews and technical evaluations.
- Share best practices in sheet metal design and fabrication.
- Support skill development and training initiatives within the engineering team.
Key CompetenciesTechnical Skills
- Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes.
- Expertise in laser cutting, punching, bending, welding, and assembly.
- Proficiency in CAD software (SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo).
- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing).
- Understanding of material properties and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems and PLM tools.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Production Engineering.
- Master's degree preferred (optional).
Experience
- 6–12+ years of experience in mechanical design and sheet metal fabrication.
- Proven experience in industrial equipment, enclosures, cabinets, automotive, heavy engineering, electrical panel manufacturing, or custom fabrication industries.
- Experience handling customer-facing projects and leading design teams.

Pay: ₹35,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
