2. Main Objective
The General Manager will have overall responsibility for the smooth, efficient and profitable operation of the rice factory, from paddy procurement through milling, grading, packaging, storage and dispatch. The GM shall ensure production targets, quality standards, cost controls, manpower productivity, maintenance, safety and statutory compliance are achieved.
3. Key Responsibilities
Factory Operations
· Supervise day-to-day rice mill operations and production planning.
· Prepare daily, weekly and monthly production plans and monitor achievement.
· Improve plant utilization, production efficiency and reduce wastage.
· Monitor rice recovery/yield, broken rice, bran, husk and other by-products.
· Ensure timely production and dispatch.
Paddy Procurement
· Coordinate paddy requirements with the procurement team.
· Monitor quantity and quality of incoming paddy, including moisture, variety and foreign matter.
· Maintain adequate raw-material stock and coordinate with suppliers, farmers and traders.
Quality Control
· Ensure quality inspection at every stage of processing.
· Monitor paddy, milling and finished-rice quality.
· Ensure proper grading, sorting and packaging.
· Handle customer quality complaints and corrective actions.
· Maintain required quality and food-safety records.
Production & Yield Control
· Monitor daily production against targets.
· Analyze rice recovery, processing losses and breakage.
· Improve machine settings and processing practices.
· Maintain production MIS and operational KPIs.
Maintenance
· Coordinate preventive and breakdown maintenance.
· Ensure regular servicing of milling, electrical, mechanical and utility systems.
· Reduce unplanned plant downtime and maintain adequate spare parts.
Manpower Management
· Supervise managers, engineers, supervisors, operators, helpers, security and other staff.
· Allocate manpower according to production requirements.
· Monitor attendance, discipline and productivity.
· Conduct performance reviews and identify training requirements.
Inventory & Stores
· Control paddy, finished rice, packaging materials, spare parts and consumables.
· Prevent excess stock, shortage and pilferage.
· Ensure proper storage and periodic physical stock verification.
Cost & Financial Control
· Prepare and control factory operating budgets.
· Monitor electricity, fuel, labour, packing and maintenance costs.
· Reduce production cost per tonne and analyze variances.
· Improve overall factory profitability.
Sales & Dispatch Coordination
· Coordinate with sales/marketing for production requirements.
· Ensure orders are produced and dispatched on time.
· Monitor finished-goods inventory, transport and logistics.
Statutory, Safety & Environmental Compliance
· Ensure compliance with applicable factory, labour, pollution-control, fire-safety and food-safety requirements.
· Maintain required registers and documentation.
· Ensure workplace safety and corrective action for unsafe practices.
· Ensure proper handling of husk, bran, dust and other factory waste.

5. Authority of the General Manager
· Allocate manpower and schedule production.
· Stop production where quality or safety is compromised.
· Approve routine purchases within approved company limits.
· Coordinate maintenance and operational corrective actions.
· Negotiate with suppliers/customers within delegated authority.
· Recommend recruitment, disciplinary action and termination.
· Recommend capital expenditure and implement approved cost-saving measures.
6. Qualification & Experience
· Graduate in Agriculture, Food Technology, Engineering, Commerce, Management or equivalent; MBA/PG qualification is an advantage.
· Preferably 10–15+ years of experience in rice milling, agro-processing, food manufacturing or a similar industry.
· At least 5 years in a senior managerial / plant-management position is desirable.

· Rice milling process and paddy procurement knowledge.
· Production planning, yield/recovery analysis and quality control.
· Machinery/maintenance understanding and cost control.
· Inventory, vendor, labour and logistics management.
· Sales coordination, MIS/Excel, problem solving and decision-making.
· Strong leadership, communication and negotiation skills.

· Labour productivity, safety performance and overall factory profitability.
