GST Litigation Associate

PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To manage and execute end-to-end GST litigation matters, including notice handling, drafting of replies, coordination with clients and departments, and maintaining documentation for hearings and appeals. The role ensures legal accuracy, procedural compliance, and effective communication while supporting the Litigation Head (Mr. Sagar Vichare) in achieving timely and accurate case resolutions for Gracia & Co. clients.
JOB RESPONSIBILITY
- Identify the issue(s) raised in GST litigation cases and review the facts, figures, and legal grounds. Analyze sections, rules, and relevant notifications applicable to the notice.
- Gather all required documents from clients and prepare replies or appeals to departmental notices. Get drafts verified by the reporting manager (CA Sagar Vichare).
- Maintain a tracker for each litigation case, recording status updates and timelines. Follow up with departments and update clients regularly on progress and next steps.
- Prepare case synopsis, hearing briefs, and supporting evidence for departmental or tribunal hearings. Document and summarize hearing outcomes for internal records.
- Prepare a budgeted to-do list and project plan for each case, share workload and progress plans with the reporting manager, and raise client invoices as per the SOW and project phase.
- Ensure all case-related documents are organized in proper digital and physical folders. Maintain easy traceability for future reference and audit verification.
- Conduct regular communication with clients to update on case progress and next steps after departmental visits or notices. Follow up with departments for updates.
- Engage in continuous learning to stay updated with the latest GST laws, case precedents, and departmental circulars. Participate in internal discussions and share key updates with the team.
TECHNICAL / FUNCTIONAL SKILLS REQUIRED
- Strong understanding of GST, ITC reconciliation, and statutory compliance.
- Working knowledge of Tally / Excel / accounting and reconciliation tools.
- Ability to interpret and apply compliance circulars and notices.
- Familiarity with departmental communication and litigation support documentation.
- Proficiency in legal research platforms (e.g., TaxMann, TaxManagementIndia).
SOFT SKILLS REQUIRED
- Strong understanding of GST laws, notifications, circulars, and case law interpretations.
- Skilled in drafting replies, appeals, and preparing case synopses.
- Ability to coordinate with multiple stakeholders including clients, consultants, and departments.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATION REQUIRED
- Intermediate Professional CA/CMA Examination Clearance / Bachelor's degree in Commerce or Accounting.
- Additional certification in GST or Accounting preferred.
