Lead PCB Design Engineer
RF & Rigid-Flex · Medical Wearables | Full-Time | Chennai (On-site)
Job Summary
RhythmRx is hiring a Lead PCB Design Engineer to own board-level layout and physical realisation across our portfolio of connected medical wearables and body-worn vital-sign monitors — compact wrist-worn cellular devices and thin, flexible cardiac patches. You will translate complex mixed-signal and RF schematics into manufacturable, high-density boards: rigid-flex and HDI stack-ups, impedance-controlled routing, and antenna co-design inside tight, waterproof, often metal enclosures. The role spans the full lifecycle — R&D prototypes, pre-production, design transfer, and sustaining for devices in the field — and combines deep hands-on layout craft with technical leadership of the team's layout quality.
Key Responsibilities
PCB Layout & Signal Integrity
- Own PCB layout for compact medical wearables and patches — multi-layer HDI and rigid-flex designs with blind/buried vias and impedance-controlled stack-ups.
- Drive signal integrity and power integrity decisions for mixed-signal, sensor, and high-density designs.
- Execute constraint-driven PCB layouts using Altium, Cadence, or KiCad while balancing electrical, thermal, and mechanical constraints.
RF & Antenna Design
- Own RF layout for cellular (LTE-M/eSIM), GNSS/GPS, and BLE.
- Co-design antennas within metal or conductive enclosures and ultra-compact form factors, managing matching networks, keep-outs, and detuning.
- Support cellular certification readiness, including PTCRB, GCF, and carrier approvals.
Mechanical, EMC & Manufacturing
- Co-design PCB and mechanical envelopes for ultra-compact, IP-rated wearables and thin flexible patches.
- Own EMC-aware layout and ESD/EOS protection strategies; support EMC pre-compliance activities.
- Drive DFM, pilot builds, and design transfer to EMS partners.
- Generate accurate fabrication and assembly outputs (Gerber, ODB++, fabrication drawings) to IPC Class 3 standards.
Leadership
- Set and uphold PCB layout quality and design standards across the team.
- Mentor junior PCB designers and provide technical guidance.
- Act as the PCB and RF technical reference for cross-functional stakeholders.
- Collaborate with hardware, mechanical, and regulatory teams from concept through production.
Requirements
- 6+ years of hands-on PCB design experience, including significant work on compact, RF-enabled, medical, or wearable products (flexible for an exceptional candidate).
- Strong expertise in multi-layer HDI and rigid-flex PCB design, including blind/buried vias and impedance-controlled stack-ups.
- RF layout experience with at least one of the following: BLE (e.g., Nordic nRF52/nRF54), Cellular IoT (LTE-M), or GNSS/GPS.
- Experience with antenna co-design for metal or conductive enclosures and compact form factors.
- Deep proficiency in Altium Designer, Cadence, or KiCad using constraint-driven layout methodologies.
- Strong understanding of signal integrity and power integrity principles for mixed-signal and high-density PCB designs.
- Knowledge of EMC-aware PCB layout, ESD/EOS protection, and IPC Class 3 fabrication and assembly standards.
- Proven experience with DFM, pilot builds, and design transfer to EMS partners.
- B.E. / M.E. in Electronics or Electrical Engineering, or equivalent PCB layout specialist experience.
- English — mandatory; Tamil — preferred.
Preferred Experience
- Ultra-compact wearable form factors, stacked/flex-rigid, and thin flexible patch designs.
- Exposure to Cellular IoT certifications (PTCRB, GCF, and carrier approvals).
- Working knowledge of IEC 60601-1-2 (EMC) and ISO 14971.
- Experience working within ISO 13485 quality-system environments.
- Exposure to FDA 510(k), CE-MDR, or CDSCO technical-file preparation.
- Familiarity with biopotential/sensor front-end PCB layout and low-noise analog routing.
